A lot of people on the left think that illegal aliens should be given citizenship, primarily so that they can vote(the thinking is that they will reward the Democrats by punching wherever they see a "D").
A lot on the right want the same thing AND for the same reasons.
Do you even KNOW why there are no or few Blacks in some areas? Hint, it has NOTHING to do with this "Sundown" nonsense.
You have summed up Harrier's position.
If you had bothered to read the thread, you would know that Harrier is critical of the author of the book, whom is the creator of the mostly oral history study.
However, it seems that you wish to deny the existence of sundown towns then and today.
Such a position is truly concerning the former isnonsense.
Read his book - or at least the first 100 pages in this preview.
In my town decades ago there was no sundown law, but if whites entered the colored town section, they would sometimes get ran out. It happened to me one time when I was a kid, after wondering what was on the other side of the hill.
The interesting thing is that Loewen thinks that some places are still effectively sundown towns even without such laws in place, and in a lot of cases, he couldn't be more wrong.
No. He's looking for further oral histories. Do you not READ and comprehend your own links?
He's got at least one semi-innacuracy from someone who emailed him. Klan activity in Anaheim, CA was against Catholics and Mexicans. Not blacks. You might want to let him know since you seem so interested. And they certainly aren't chasing blacks out of Anaheim and Buena Park and the other tourist-oriented cities after sundown now. Even Orange County learned people of all colors create tax revenue. They also learned they had to abide by the Fair Housing Act of 1968.
Honestly, I don't know why anyone would get offended at this and don't understand why the OP even posted this since it is common knowledge that non-white, non-Christian people were heavily discriminated against in our country until very recently.
It is also pretty laughable that any sort of political party or conservative/liberal thing was brought up. Just like today, both conservatives and liberals can be prejudiced or racist. I would bet that practically every state in our country has had some sort of "sundown" law.
Why would an (R) person want a voter to punch the (D) option?
I don't know how to answer that without it being an attack.
