"But they’re an interesting landlord. They’re not worried about the next quarter. They have a much longer perspective than many other investors would have had. They want to know what the city will look like in the next 50 or 100 years.”

You're right. Salt Lake City has had democratic mayors for the last 37 years. As a matter of fact, in the last national election, Romney obviously garnered a lot of support throughout Utah and beat Obama by a landslide here. In the prior election, though, Salt Lake City's residents voted for Obama over McCain.
About par for the region. Better than CA and AZ worse than NV.
Again it appears the thesis of this thread is incorrect. Utah is run of the mill...not particularly successful.. It does well on things where the LDS is effective and does less well on things such as economic numbers where the LDS may be a disadvantage.
Interesting but I don't think even Dems could mess up Utah. Well assuming they leave the social crap alone. I wasn't getting at economics or even race but something that transcends these things.
Assuming Utah is successful at all, it may have a lot to do with having a low black population. Keeping in mind, for years, the Mormon religion did not accept blacks.

Never fails to rear it's ugly head on these boards, oh well, people have to express their inner selves for all to see.
The is a great deal of support for gays (look at the news once in a while).
Ok, then why does the church ex-communicate gays along with gay & civil unions still being banned on a constitutional level. I'll cut you some slack here though since a lot of other states also did the same.

Beer is available at the grocery store and it is not the only state that only sells hard liquor at state sanctioned stores.
Yeah really really weak beer (less than 3.2%) in alcohol content and no wine. I never said anything about hard liquor. I was talking about beer and wine, where in most states people can get those items at grocery stores and other specialty stores. So a place like Total Wine that is all over country couldn't operate in Utah because of their backwards drinking laws.

Statements such as your confirmed the jealous bigotry of some in other states. Of course, liberals like you could never misspeak now, could you (see your leader for evidence).
Jealous LOL of what???, Who is being a bigot, I'm just stating the facts. Again, if you want to live in a state like that go ahead. It is not for me again going back to the original topic. It may have a some good benefits, but the negative far out weighs the good. If you want to live don't let me stop you. Whatever floats your boat.

Actually, there has never been a time in the history of Mormonism when Blacks could not be members of the Church. There has never been a period of time when our congregations were segregated either. There was quite an extensive period of time, unfortunately, when Blacks could not hold the priesthood in the LDS Church. (Not that this has anything to do with the OP, but I always feel obliged to correct in accurate information. )
