Oddly enough, we have a rise in the elderly population due to them being "old school" and getting it on without protection in their old age. Many think they are too old to get HIV/AIDS. In my line of work, our resident services teams educate many in our elder community about HIV/AIDS and other STDs since that population has rising rates of infections.
The average age of an HIV patient in San Francisco is now over 50.
It might interest you to know that in every big city in America, there are active, volunteer-driven charities, in most cases founded and run by gay men (but now serving everyone), that help diagnose, counsel, and treat people with HIV/AIDS. They're a great example of a community taking care of its own.

I don't think you understand. Those guys & many conservatives like them don't give a s*it about HIV/AIDS because they view it strictly as a gay virus. They can't fathom that they could possibly contract it as well. They basically view it as karma for gays, deserved karma. Which is why I challenged them to inject themselves with some AIDS-infected blood, see what happens.

Actually there are two groups, one that believes HIV does cause AIDS and is a punishment from God, etc., and another that believes that HIV does not cause AIDS and all of those people died in the 80s and 90s from drug use or whatever.
The two groups do overlap, but they're not identical.
Remember the 90's?? Omg we were ALL going to die from it. Surely, it's just as important today, right? We have to prevent our children from this deadly epidemic....of course! I mean, it's still the big killer....

And, with the dumbing down of children through social media and the regression of the public school system...we can't rely on this generation being more critical thinkers...can we?

It is a tragedy that HIV awareness has fallen off as this most likely helps to account for the rising rates of infection among teenagers and young adults. Women and men of color have the highest rising rates of infection.
When the wonder drugs became readily available, concern dropped. One pill a day keeps one healthy. With out the dramatic illness and death rates, visibility has decreased. It's a problem that needs to be addressed before infections rise even more.

Sorry if I believe the doctors and world renown virologists that are pointing out this was just a multi-billion dollar windfall for big pharma as opposed to the big chimp folklore.
