Obama administration and Mexican government officials recently discussed creating a three-tier security system designed to protect Mexico’s southern border from drug and human traffickers, according to U.S. officials.

The border control plan calls for U.S. funding and technical support of three security lines extending more than 100 miles north of Mexico’s border with Guatemala and Belize. The border security system would use sensors and intelligence-gathering to counter human trafficking and drug running from the region, a major source of illegal immigration into the United States.

According to the officials who discussed the U.S.-Mexican talks on condition of anonymity, the Mexican government proposed setting up three security cordons using electronic sensors and other security measures along the southern Mexican border, along a line some 20 miles from the southern border, and along a third security line about 140 miles from the southern Mexican territorial line.

The plan would be funded in part through the Merida Initiative, a U.S.-led anti-drug trafficking program that has involved nearly $2 billion in U.S. funds.

So Obama refuses to secure our southern border, and even sues Arizona for trying to do it, but he will devote the resources to securing Mexico's southern border.

Obama has been iron fisted when it comes to illegal immigration. He has been deporting more illegals than any other president in US history.

Also Obama didn't sue anyone, we have a constitution to abide by even though the GOP thinks it's toilet paper.

And besides that, the outrage if any should be on the part of Mexicans, outraged that their government is allowing the American government to essentially dictate the parameters of Mexican national security such that it best serves American interests with regard to the drug trade and human trafficking. I find it shocking that the previous poster failed to understand this aspect of the effort.

Why should Mexicans be outraged ?

They don't tolerate illegal immigration like we do.
If anything they are probably glad that the US is going to pay for all this additional border security for them at their southern border. That's where their illegal immigration problem is.

The drug trade will continue no matter how secure you make the border.
They'll just find another route.

Sounds like the US will pay for a better border security system for Mexico then they have for protecting our own border.

I actually outlined the precise reason in the message you replied to, but clearly didn't read.

Why not just end the drug war and entitlements that lure people over the border?

Oh thats right, better to create more government.

I noted how you sneaked that thoroughly avaricious advocacy in there, eliminating the social safety net that protects those who aren't as lucky as you from the structural impediments in our society that preclude affording the basics of life. Luckily, our society embraces human decency, even though your comments indicate you preferred it would not do so.

So the moral projection of what you've said would be to end entitlements to those who come into this country illegally. You may not be aware but legislators have been trying to work out an agreement to accomplish that. Why not turn your attention away from perspectives that reek of egoistic greed and turn your attention toward supporting the work of legislators working to come to a compromise that works for everyone, that will significant reduce illegal immigration?

We have Mexicans coming here illegally, not masses of people from Belize or Guatemala.
Illegals from Belize and Guatemala is Mexico's problem but we seem intent on solving it for them.
