I'm a woman. I call my chick friends "*****" (rhymes with witch) playfully sometimes when we are joking around. If any strange man I didn't know called me that, I'd have a serious problem with it. That's kind of how I view the n-word.
It's the same with any insult or endearment - it means something entirely different when it's coming from someone with a shared background than it does from someone who doesn't share that contextual background. You wouldn't call someone a dumbass for tripping over a rock if you didn't know them, would you? But you might say that to tease a friend.
Don't play the "PC BS" card. This is just common sense, and I don't understand why some white people (and yes, I am white) are so desperate to justify their use of the n-word. It's just bizarre to me.
Because there is no similar taboo against black people using equivalent words for whites.
She needs a time machine and a trip back to 1950 or 1870 to undo the damage she did to herself. She is a throwback to a time when racism and bigotry was considered normal.
Why should she get reputation back? She treated staff like garbage for a number of years. As I read about this case, it was clear that her behavior spanned many years. You people disassociate yourselves with people for far lesser transgressions, like minor instances of lying. As far as I know, she admitted to the behavior with her "apology" and what has been said about her is accurate. Can you not find some public figures who have been unfairly penalized instead of this backwards cake-face?
