Interestingly I got this email from my Son's school yesterday.

HS parents, this is to inform you that we have been notified that one of our students has been diagnosed with Chicken Pox even after being vaccinated. This is a rare occurrence, but wanted you to be informed since chicken pox is contagious.

So I guess the shots are not foolproof..

If you catch the chicken pox after vaccination, you'll have a milder case of chicken pox than if you had not been vaccinated.

The kid is lucky he caught the chicken pox since the vaccine only provides protection for 20 years.

Chicken Pox Immunity: How Long It Lasts - HealthyChildren.org

I waited as long as possible hoping my children would catch the chicken pox the old fashioned way.

I didn't wait to vaccinate against other illnesses because there was no benefit whatsoever to catching them naturally.

How ironic. Measles is a nasty illness.

Hmm, I am very surprised they would reference the students vaccine status, that goes against HIPAA regulations. Also, the chickenpox vaccine series is 2 shots, many people only have one.

Please remember vaccines do not confer absolute immunity, but when a vaccinated individual does develop the disease vaccinated against, the disease is likely to be milder and shorter duration than without vaccination.

There are a number of reasons why some people and some vaccines are more effective and depend on the specific disease, whether the timetable was adhered to, a very few people are vaccine "non-responders", they don't develop antibodies, and finally there are a few predispositions such as ethnicity, age and genetics that affect the production of antibodies.

Like anything they aren't 100 percent.

Does his plan include vaccines?
