Hopefully this reasonable Russian approach beats the irrational DC approach.

Do any of you honestly think that Russia's "offer to help" should be taken at face value? Their little buddy Syria was staring down the barrel of a gun. Putin in this case may be technically right, but even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut.

They stepped in it when with the "we will help Syria" commenent, so maybe they realized Syria is really not worth it, especially when there is a much easier way out, by telling Syria (Russias ally) to hand over the WMDs.

Of course Russia has ulterior motives, but the US was staring down a major Obama blunder. Oddly enough, Russia is helping us from hurting our self.

What are you talking about? Kerry's Gaffe?

I was at work... Saw a bit of CNN. That CNN said the State Department officially said was unintended and rhetorical and that the US would still pursue a strike.

It came from Kerry not Russia. It is being characterized as a "gaffe" but I have a feeling this was hatched at the G20 last week. Another Nobel for Obama?

Well, yes our government lies to us a lot (especially under Obama we have seen it happen many times)...

So when the government said today that Kerry's words were rhetorical it could very well be just another Obama lie.

However, why did the State Dept. Official say that they would pursue a military strike anyways even if the chemical weapons were turned over?

I've said it before and will again. Someone that does something right even if they do it for the wrong reason still did what was right.

This should have been Obama's first choice. If he felt chemicals weapons were a danger, and wanted to diminish the danger of them being used, then having them monitored and secured by a UN or other third party was better then starting a war.
