Who specifically is arguing that all of these so-called "black" people are oppressed? How are these individuals defining oppression? Which "blacks" are they speaking of...the majority who are part of the American middle class?
Perhaps you should listen to the speakers at todays March On Washington commemoration if you'd like to find out how black people are still oppressed in 2013.
Obtusity and ignorance is not an excuse. Tune in and you'll find out.
Without the straw man.....they have no logical argument. They therefore must create a false premise, claim that the false premise represents the "black position", then make a valid argument given the premise. However, regardless how logical the inference is, based upon the premise, a false premise creates a false conclusion.
The false premise you claim will be obliterated after today's speakers at the March On Washington are done having their say.
Perhaps you should try not to be so short-sighted?
The better question is, why are you asking a question you have already created an answer for? Not that your answer has even an ounce of truth to it, but the sheer fact that you have listed all the reasons why you think Blacks aren't oppressed shows that this is not really a genuine inquiry into why this ethnic group may still feel oppressed, but is instead a subtle way for you to express your own beliefs under the guise of simply asking a question.
A huge part of the reason why this country is not able to adequately and effectively have a real conversation about race, is because folks like you come into a discussion ready to spew your beliefs without really listening to the reasons why any group (whether that be women, gays, Blacks, other ethnic minorities) may feel like they are oppressed.
I would strongly discourage folks from feeding into this thread, because it is clear that the OP is not interested in a balanced discussion on this, but is instead using this "question" as bait for him to assert his unsolicited opinions.

It's no coincidence that this kind of stupidity shows up on the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech.
Kudos for being predictable.
Today is the commemoration of the March itself, which happened to have King as a speaker, not the other way around. Kings speech has long overshadowed the purpose and intent of the March. Your reference to King is proof of that. Which I will point out has nothing to do with this thread.

"Oprah Winfrey, Jamie Foxx and Forest Whitaker are among the celebrities joining three presidents [Obama, Clinton, and Carter] this week to mark the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington. Soledad O'Brien and Hill Harper will host the "Let Freedom Ring" commemoration."
Like Oprah's movie isn't doing well enough ?
Will we hear the name 'Trayvon' and if so, how many times ?

It has everything to do with this thread. Are you black? If you aren't then how the hell would you know if a black person is "oppressed" or not?

And the 50th anniversary of the speech is 3 pm.
Jesus.
Your point? I can find none. As usual. Just more obtusity and an overwhelming, but suppressed, desire to call me a racist when in reality you know the question being posed in the OP is logical. Just because you don't have the guts to ask these questions doesn't mean the discussion shouldn't be had.
Exit the thread if timidity prevents you from offering up a relevant point.
What??? Are you saying that the consequences of nearly 400 years of institutional racism cannot be wiped out in 50? Say it ain't so! And I thought racism died with the signing of the Civil Rights Act... Who knew? Someone better tell the OP.
