Honestly, I am surprised that Cantor and GW Bush didn't come, along with Boehner.
Even though the OP is trying to make this a "black" event, it really is an event important to all Americans and I wish that Republicans would have accepted the invitation and spoken at the event.
IMO it is a testament to the feelings of many black Americans who believe that the Republican party does not respect or care about them as citizens of this country.
This would have been a great time for Cantor especially since he has stated he is seeking to re-write the Voting Rights Act, to discuss political and racial unity in our nation.
I actually don't think it is a big deal that the black Republican wasn't invited since top Republicans and prominent GOP members of our legislature were invited. To me this is another case of conservative media "playing the race card."
Scott would not have spoke even if he was invited to do so!
He wants to actually get elected senator from South Carolina, vs being appointed. Speaking at the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington would be a death nail to his already very limited prospects in the very red, conservative state...
Terrible decision by Boehner and Cantor they should have had the day marked on their calender and showed up and spoke. I can see the Bush boys declining with their father being in bad shape and who knows when it will his last day. Bond makes a good point of how are {R}s going to reach out to blacks when they give them the cold shoulder on a very important day for their race. The leaders blew this one.
The Bush family has a legitimate excuse for not being there. Everyone else....it was a deliberate snub.
There are lots of prominent blacks without an invitation to speak. Were they snubbed too?
Not one conservative was asked to speak... Jim Crow in black politics . The word exclusion is alive and well in the black democratic party. They can't even include Republicans who are black.. how is that for bigotry=meaning.
bigoted attitudes; intolerance toward those who hold different opinions from oneself.

You need to stop reading nutty blogs or websites and calling it "facts" or "news" In the meantime, here's the Wall Street Journal:
"Former NAACP Chairman Julian Bond told MSNBC Wednesday that event organizers invited “a long list of Republicans to come,” but each declined. A spokesman for Speaker John Boehner acknowledged that Mr. Boehner was invited to speak but instead had marked the anniversary by speaking at a July event commemorating the march in the Rotunda of the Capitol, with other top lawmakers including Senate Majority Leader Sen. Harry Reid (D., Nev.)."

Maybe that's because black Republicans, like Republicans in specific, work to actively undermine the integrity of the flack community? I mean, it's just a guess.

Who are Cantor and Boehner, fellow travelers?
I would have asked Clarence Thomas to speak, myself. The gyrations he would have made to justify not coming would have been hilarious to see.
And the Republicans wonder why they keep losing the black vote.
No we don't wonder why we keep losing the black vote. That's just a narrative that liberals like to push.
The idiotic thing is that liberals simultaneously push the idea that Republicans are racists, and that Republicans are completely out of touch with minorities. Whenever you advance once of those lies, you undermine the other one because they cannot both be true.
