So is this a case of the USA is right and the whole world is wrong or is it a case of only the USA knows what is best for Syria? Either way the arrogance is staggering.
IMO, this is a first step just to get Assad from using Chems on his own people. Actually, it really isn't his own people he is using them on. The action will stop him from doing that until he is threatened more critically from inside Syria. He will no doubt use them again to try and save his life. When he does, the US and some International allies will take out Assad and secure WMDs. Then what? Hopefully we will let the various Syrian factions fight it out for the spoils.

Neither Russia or Iran would get into a shooting conflict with the US. Their objective is the same as our home grown RWers,... bloviate ...., that's about the extent of it.

Obama says will not take action without Congress approval and Congressional leaders all agreed to take the vote.

The Congress, as in the entire legislative branch, would probably vote against authorization, because there is no US national security issue here, much less an urgent one, and the evidence proving Assad had carried out this attack, or had a compelling motive to do so, is too weak to go to war over.
The Senate wouldn't vote for it either.

He is right that action needs to be taken, but not alone and not needed to be done now. If Congress wants the US to go it alone, they must own it. While Congress continues to do nothing, the WH will seek International support for it, if by some freak of political nature Congress should bump into doing their job. Basically, it is a way out of the initial red line rhetoric trap he was in.

At this point the ONLY international ally that is willing to support the US is France. If the US goes in without the blessing of the UN, no country is under any obligation to join a US coalition.

Just listened to his speech. With or without Congress, without the blessing of the UN, he will go it alone. He's confident that a one-off strike is going to do the trick. No open-end war. No boots on the ground. Clever little man. Should it go all wrong and Syria retaliates against a neighboring country and he decides it's necessary for the US to intervene and get into a war with Syria, and he is reminded about "no open-end war" and "no boots on the ground" he can revert back to "that related to the strike on Syria" and he would be telling the truth.

There you have it. Obama just said that he thinks we should use the military option, yes he will allow Congress to vote on it. Sort of like asking permission to do a bad thing so that after you do it you can blame someone else.
The UN says a Military solution is no option. The rest of the world says they are against a military solution.
The whole world is wrong and Obama is right.

What he said is that he would not take action until he presents his case to Congress. He's taking it to Congress because he is being pressured to do it. But he is still prepared to go without Congress' approval. I guess you weren't listening very well or your hearing aid has a malfunction.
