I spent $70 on a new craftsmen light for my shop recently. Didnt use it for a month. When I did, it lasted a week.
Just had rear glass replaced in my truck. The motor burnt out in a week.
Just had airbags installed to improve towing. In a month the left had a leak.
Had my hitch professionally installed. A few months later I noticed all the left side bolts had almost entirely fallen out..
I get so annoyed. It's not even just the cost but the inconvenience..
I have quality related issues at work you wouldn't believe. Thats for another day. My fingers would probably bleed from all the typing if I started going down that path lol
Houses also. They might cost $300,000 or more but there is no craftsmanship in the houses built in the past couple decades.
Yeah, all the "pex" plastic water supply lines instead of copper. The yellow flex gas line that can blow your house off it's foundation if it's not grounded properly in a lightning storm.
All because the guys were too lazy to run a threader and black pipe and fittings.
There is an old Russian/Soviet saying "If you pretend to pay me for my work, I will pretend to do my work".
Slacking, ignoring defects, covering up for mistakes, and often simply playing dumb if you are a an R&D person, engineer or quality control specialist ,lack a fair days pay and lack of safe working conditions or lack any real appreciastion for your work ethic or skills saboitage or negligence really have become the only way to even the score with your employers or even let them know you even exist! Workers whether in China or the USA have chains on them whether they like it or not so whats wrong with shaking them a little.
BUT...if you "shake those chains" too much people get tired of it.
Your reputation goes in the toilet and people stop buying your products...thus ultimately ending in the closing of the factory and you losing your job.
Government contract manufacturers even need to be more careful.
Men and women are putting their lives on the line using your products.
If they don't work or have too many issues, your contract gets cancelled and layoffs start.
If you want to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed go right ahead.
It's not long before folks figure out the only thing you sold them was a guaranteed POS.

All valid points. However, we're talking about manufacturers in China more often than not today. Since the U.S. has inundated them with work, your faulty pair of sneakers or whatever is small peanuts to them. And really, what are you going to do about it? Buy a different pair? Chances are the same massive job shop that produced the first pair also made the other pair you're thinking of buying.
Sucks doesn't it... We've exported all our jobs to them, and all we got in return are cheap, poor quality, easily breakable goods. Hope you like lead and mercury in your products
We became a "throw away" culture long ago. Also people just don't take care of things the way our predecessors did. I have a number of hand me down items from my grandparents (furniture, tools, ect) that still look brand new.
Something else manufacturers used to do a lot that they don't do anymore are "scratch and dent" or "2nds" discounts or sales. Items caught in quality control and final inspection deemed not up to standards were separated out and sold as such.
What you are seeing now are items in WORSE shape then before sold as current stock. That big scratch or the finish wasn't cured properly and begins flaking off in a week is acceptable now. Oh really? That's why you spent $340 for it? You charge enough to stop that crap from getting out the door.
I agree. I always cross my fingers now when opening a box or put something together.
And the stuff is so flimsy now you wonder just how long it will last for the money spent to purchase.
Add the poisonous toxins that are in products. Children dying from defective products. Animals dying from toxin poison in the food. We don't know what is in the food products on the shelves or in the grocery section. I guess China thinks they can slowly kill off Americans. The US claims that there is so many goods coming in from foreign countries that they can't enforce quality control on everything and there certainly is no quality control in the countries that are producing these goods. Inspectors make a bigger effort during Christmas because goods imported go sky high and there are an abundance of goods that don't pass inspection. If they don't pass inspection at Christmas, safe to safe that goods entering the country the rest of the year don't pass inspection and end up in the US market.
We put more emphasis on quality control when it comes to goods produced in the US and seriously lacking in goods imported.

Ahhhh, those Chinese walls full of poisonous toxins. It takes a while before you realize that you and your family are breathing in those toxins until you see black patches on everything.
