Yeah the kids don't know who's winning. So stupid yet so PC. I'm sure when our glorious leaders hear about this the yute soccer programs in the US will have this all mandatory too.

"Tessa McDonald says it’s going to be “a lot weirder” to play soccer without keeping score. But she still wants to win. “Winning is more fun than losing, and if there’s no score, how are you going to have fun?”

The 9-year-old midfielder, who plays for the North Toronto Soccer Club’s competitive under-10 team, says she will keep score in her head this year (“as long as it’s not more than seven”), but worries her teammates might not be equally motivated if the game “doesn’t matter.”

Tessa’s league is one of many across the province that will stop keeping score and tabulating standings this season in an attempt to shift the focus of kids’ soccer away from winning and toward skills development.

Some leagues and age groups started last season, others will adopt the approach this year, and by 2014 it will be mandatory across Ontario for all competitive players under 12.

It’s part of a well-established, research-supported and holistic approach to player development, common in soccer-rich countries and endorsed by the sport’s brightest minds."

Who can argue with a holistic approach after all. lol

Realize this is an old post, but had to respond as a coach, referee, player, and soccer convenor - who wants to cheer for Canada in a world cup again before I die.

It's not about the kids not knowing who's winning. It's about parent coach's not feeling the need to win by putting the fat kid in the net everytime, telling the weak kids to get out of the way to let big jimmy get it, and to not just kick the ball from far out to score while the nets are big and the goalies are small. That approach only serves to marginalize the weaker kids and encourage them to quit, and get the stronger kids to learn the same technique over and over - that lasts until about 14 when they meet kids from other countries that do encourage skills development and they crush our kids.

So yeah, the kid's know the score during the game. It's not a secret, that's not the point. It's not PC, unless you think it's PC to keep doing what we're doing, which isn't working.

If kids knowing the score were helpful to development, Canada and the US would be World Cup favorites.

The kids will continue to keep score and they'll still yell at the fat kid when he screws up. The winning team will still gloat and the only thing that changes is the losing team claiming it was a tie and they dont keep score.

Right - it doesn't matter. So just keep the score and train the kids to play. If they don't win - or certain kids are not good, it may be an indicator that they should move on to something else they are good at.

I disagree. Telling the "weak kids" to get out of the way because, well, frankly, they aren't as good, encourages them to be better and develop a better and more competitive skill set.

I was watching the commercial for the Iphone 5s and they have this song and it goes something like this ...."nuts to the flabby guys, GO you chicken fat GO AWAY" Now as stupid as a song as that is for an Iphone, it's actually a song written for the presidential fitness program commissioned by President Kennedy in the 60's. Can you imagine the Liberal heads that would explode if we played such a song to the fatties in schools today? Why has the world got so politically correct?

This "every-body-gets-a-trophy" attitude isn't doing anyone any good at all. All it does is send the message that success is bad, that doing something better than someone else is unacceptable.

I guess you missed that part about it being the norm in MOST "soccer rich" countries and endorsed by the sports brightest minds. So I guess it won't ever take hold in your retardville, eh?

Basically, because score doesn't really matter when you are 10 years old. Don't need any more little league coaches abusing 9 year old children like they are amatuer pro athletes.

It would be a bit weird not having score.. but at that age.. no one really cared. Sports were to be active. Real "winning" didn't matter until pre-teen years or so.
