Are people who are susceptible to believing any sketchy urban legend or flat-out BS story (e.g., "TACO BELL USES SAWDUST IN TACOS!") predisposed to also believing bigger, more important ones (e.g., those that have national/societal importance)?

Yes. A lot (and I mean a lot) of people actually believe a man walked on water 2000 years ago. No matter how intelligent a person is, the indoctrination they receive when they are young often trumps all logic and reason.

Well first, its not saw dust, its animal byproduct, algae, and seaweed stuff they put in there meat. Its why there was a lawsuit about them calling their meat ground beef. If it isn't 50% cow, hard to call that ground beef.

But I digress. Humans have a natural drive to be social. Therefore, you are inclined to want to trust people.

As hitler said, the bigger the lie, the more people will believe it
