One thing I remember him saying is that Saddam should have been attacked just because of what he has done to others and liberals should be supporting bush just on those reasons alone. I think that we see that coming true now has to reason to attack Assad for doing the very thing Saddam did to the Kurds and use he made of chemical weapons n his war with iran.

Nobody is going to accuse McCain of being a leftist. Feingold wasn't even a leftist.

"Leftists" even have a right to proclaim that words like "illegal alien" should be removed from everyday speech. That is not a problem until the government decides to act on it.
I don't question that we have become more politically correct, in our past there were many racist and defamatory terms that we used, that has changed and I agree the pendulum has swung the other way but this is not a free speech issue. I would hope that both liberals and those on the right would take issue with some of the derogatory terms used in the past.

Hitchens had no blood in the game so easy for him to say, and we can't go attacking every dictator we don't like, it would be a full time job. If he was such a threat we should have gone to war as a nation, not just the 1%.

Just getting the US to pull their support of ruthless puppets we set up has been enough of a challenge.

Derogatory terms becoming unpopular to use indeed does not have anything to do with free speech rights and it shows why attempts by the government to impose restrictions are not needed.

I agree. But the opening poster said that the "freedom of speech means that you are free and everyone has to listen and not be silenced" Well, people silence free speech all the time.

I don't support the government silencing free speech, I said that before, but the freedom of speech does not grant you the right to be heard, as was the suggestion of the opening poster and Christopher Hitchens.

It's to the point of being ridiculous.

The Phillies Triple A affiliate are called the "Iron Pigs". Their mascot was a pig named "Porkchop".

The name "porkchop" was considered racist because "porkchop" is a derogatory term used in the hispanic community for fat kids.

Who even knew that?

They changed the name to "Ferrous"! I wonder what will happen if a kid shows up with an iron deficiency!

What a joke!

I never called a fat kid pork chop. I like to eat them though. Pork chops, not fat kids.
