If Obama wants to put Putin in his place he needs to develop our petroleum resources and kill Russia's economy with cheaper oil.

Yep, plus getting more into extraction to go with our refinery capacity would drastically shift the global dynamic re oil.

Really deep wells cost lots of money to run.

Its why oil sands and shale are still profitable. Good for them, I'm glad we've found some more in the gulf, but it is very deep, and very expensive to get to.

No need for massive platforms drilling in depths never seen before in the Persian gulf region, and its why they still control the market price.
