Progressive critics of Summers had argued for months that he was not the right candidate to tame the big banks—or to address the fundamental challenges facing the US economy.

But Obama continued to consider the man who served as his director of the National Economic Council.
Now the president must find another nominee.
In August, Warren and Sanders circulated a letter that raised questions for whoever is nominated to chair the Fed.

Sanders and Warren argued that “the next Fed chair will have an opportunity to get our economy back on track and to help rebuild America’s middle class. But that will require the right temperament and a willingness to take on Wall Street CEOs when necessary. It is critical that the next Fed chair make a genuine, long-term commitment to supporting those who don’t have armies of lobbyists and lawyers to advance their interests in Washington—working and middle-class families.”

I'm impressed that liberals were able to successfully make the case. However, it should be noted that Barack Obama stood steadfast by Summers' nomination, and repeatedly went to bat for him. If anything, liberals should be thanking Summers for withdrawing, and castigating Barack Obama for not standing up for his base.

Almost made it to 3 posts without mention of Obama, must be a record. He wanted him but this is a step in the right direction, didn't realize what a big fan you were of liberal senators, kudos to Elizabeth Warren someone we both like.

1. Warren and Sanders are Progressives

2. Barack Obama is a moderate

No one you mentioned is a liberal.

Why would Obama not be discussed? It's HIS nominee!

Liberals like the OP didn't jeer Summer's nomination? Of course they did. The noise was loud. You're just being obtuse.

I don't see that they said anything that every politician doesn't say.

We need a federal official who will get the economy back on track and improve the middle class.

Wow, what a revolutionary thing for a politician to say. Never heard that one before.

If Rand Paul filibustered John Bolton for Secretary of State under a Mitt Romney Presidency, you would not be calling him a Conservative because his ideology falls far more in the realm of right wing Libertarian than conservative just as Warren and Sanders fall more into the realm of Progressive than Liberal.

just because you dont agree with me doesnt mean im Obtuse.

Every Democrat since FDR has been promising that if you'd just give making your own decisions, and let them make them for you, that will happen.

But, it hasn't happened. Imagine that.

Government cannot improve the economy.

Why is it that you insist on leaning entirely on the elected officials' view and completely ignore the fact that liberals by the thousands protested Summers' nomination? Yes....believe it or not....liberal citizens fought hard against Summers. But you don't want to hear that.

That's what you call obtuse.
