I still think Bruce Dickinson is the most interesting man in the world. Lead singer for Iron Maiden and blessed with a wicked set of pipes, he's also a world-class fencer (I fence too and I'd love to duel him), a fully certified and currently active airline pilot, and an author of books for children. I wish I had half that much drive.
I really like Savannah and Charleston. Those folks speak their minds (as we do in the west and western midwest) and things are pretty well out in the open, like it or not.
We go to Charleston and Savannah at least once a year for the last 25 years. Those who come to visit are "yankees", while those who come to stay are "damn yankees" (my brother). For example, a couple of years ago I walked into a barber shop in the peninsula for a haircut (men do not go to salons). There were four guys my age lined up waiting for what was a clearly southern male to get haircuts. There was a very pretty, late 20s woman with an empty chair. I asked when I could get a haircut- one hour for the guy and right away for the girl (same age as my daughter). Obviously, I chose the girl. It was quite apparrent that the 'old boys" were avoiding the Yankee girl (from Maine) and were waiting for the local. Hilarious- that is Charleston. I let it slip out to the boys, when "talking to the girl" that two of my ancestors helped burn down nearly all the plantations around Charleston as a part of Sherman's army. I have seen their handy work at Middleton Plantation and it was a beautiful job.
We and those southerners are cut from the same cloth, but we don't hold a grudge.
Greatest obituary ever! Can you imagine how awesome the eulogy was? lol
