In case you've forgotten, Iran doesn't really have a government. They have a number of competing religious leaders (ayatollahs), and whichever one has the most power at the moment, is more or less the "leader". People like this "President Rouhani", is merely the spokesman for whichever ayatollah is the current top dog.

Is Khameni still the ayatollah of the hour?
Yes, the mullahs have the last word, but the presidents do play a big part in foreign policy.
Looks like the guy is already blaming Israel for the instability in the area, so I guess some things never change. Either way, the comments about the nukes is a positive thing if followed by actions.
They signed the treaty years ago and meant it - we signed the non-proliferation treaty and didn't mean it.
And you know this how?
Quote:
We are the aggressors, not them.
Right, it was us calling them the Great Satan and saying they needed to be completely destroyed.

If they chose to use such a weapon against anybody, they know they would be vaporized in minutes, and they aren't stupid.
That didn't stop Cuba from trying to get nuclear weapons. I think you're being naive if you expect reasonable behavior from Iran.

The US is itchin for an excuse to show off their military superiority.
Yes, that's why 92% of the population opposes a military strike on Syria, because we're itchin' to use our military.

Iran spends very little on their defenses compared to other countries, and none spend close to as much as we do. What we do spend is not for defense, but for offense globally.
Plus we supply our friends like Israel.
Other nations weren't the primary force containing communism. The thing that people on the left tend to miss is that the reason other nations spend less on their military is precisely because we spend more. They can afford to spend less because we're protecting them, so using the fact that they spend less as if it makes some sort of point isn't a proper comparison. It's like saying we should cut funding to the police department because crime is low, when having a good police department is exactly why crime is low in the first place.
Not very honest. This is what the new guy is saying, true or not. It is a different tone, because in the past they have been openly hostile towards us. Time will tell if this is just another way to BS.
They have every right to be hostile, the US helped Iraq to kill tens of thousands of Iranians with chemical weapons in the 80s. The US is worse and less trustworthy than Iran, frankly...
