If the government doesn't get funded by October, it will shut down.
Republicans in the House have passed a bill that will fund all of the government at last year's levels, even including all the Democrats' pet projects from last year that Republicans (or at least conservatives) normally object to.
Democrats in the Senate have refused to pass that bill, or even vote on it, because it doesn't fund one new Dem pet project that wasn't part of the government last year, the ACA. But they are doing nothing to write a separate bill to fund that new pet project.
The more fanatical Democrats are insisting it's Republicans' fault that government isn't getting funded.
Can they get any sillier?
Wow, conservatives are really that stupid. Obama said that if the bill affected obamacare in any way that it would not pass...what part of that do you stupid conservatives not understand? And what do the conservatives do? Mess with obamacare anyway. They also have voted on obamacare or sent it to be vote on like over 40 times! Good to know that they are ripping taxpayers off by voting on the same thing over and over. And what is the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over..

And anyone who tries to claim that the GOP doesn't want a shutdown:
"We're pretty much out of options at this point,'' said Rep. Devin Nunes (R., Calif.), criticizing the faction of the party most unwilling to compromise. "They're all giddy about it. You know who benefits the most here from a shutdown? The Democrats benefit and they know that."
Giddy. That's the word a GOP Congressman who has been inside the House sessions uses to describe his colleagues. They are excited about the prospect of a shutdown. And too stupid to know how badly it's going to bite them in the ass.
This is supposed to be a debt ceiling issue where the adults in Congress agree to pay the bills they have authorized in past spending bills. Republicans are holding bill paying hostage in an attempt to backdoor their agenda and undo past legislation. This mess is on their shoulders.
Why don't you ask them that - if the Democrats choose to not fund the government, then the blame for a shutdown falls squarely on them.
A spending bill is before the Senate - all they have to do is pass it.
It is an Incomplete Spending Bill, looks like the House needs to figure out that when they allocate money for programs they must allocate money for all of them at levels that will support those programs. Righties must assume that the rest of America is as stupid as they are and simply accept the right-wing slant on issues without question. Psssst, most are Americans still think for themselves and when they watch the House in action they know what they are trying to pull. The GOP is gonna pay a price for this in the next elections, GOOD.
What we really have is a cohort of roughly 1/3 of one house of the legislature claiming the right to veto anything they dislike. With the Hasert rule and the fear of a right wing primary they can dominate the Republican majority. So even though they cannot actually command a majority of the house they still are capable of vetoing anything they dislike.
I think the Democrats must simply stand fast and force a retreat. Probably an eventual split in the Republican majority in the house. Otherwise they give the Tea Partiers an effective veto over any action.
Excellent question that you have asked on several threads that not a single Con will answer.
I will add another one--why should the Senate accept a concession of a one-year delay in the implementation of Obamacare in exchange for the GOP's magnanimous offer of allowing the government to continue to function for a mere two months? That's all the time their CR covers. Why not offer to fund the government for that same full year? Because at the end of those two months, they will make further demands to dismantle the ACA, and we get to do this all over again.
Yeah, can't figure out why the Democrats aren't jumping all over this "deal."
The Democrat funding CR was only for 45 days. It would expire on Nov 15 ..... but
that's just fine because they are the almighty Democrats and they should get everything they demand. Harry Reid is saying it's his 45 days or nothing.
Keep in mind ..... Obama (with Reid's help) has drawn another Red Line.
His last Red Line did not work out so well for him or for the credibility of the USA.

Reid is saying 45 days because McConnell has proposed a one week CR. Which is absolutely pointless, given where we are now. I think both two months or 45 days is ridiculous. We will just end up here again way too soon. Fund the government for the year and let's move on. There are other things that need attention.
