Maybe Texas is getting ready to defend the southern border, something our useless Federal Government won't do.

"The police department was able to get their hands on the $600,000 vehicle with 10,000 miles for nothing. According to the Dallas Observer, the Department of Defense was had no use for the vehicles and has given them to local police departments instead of letting them collect dust in warehouses."

Not a tank but an armored vehicle.

And if they're giving them away, why wouldn't the 4th largest US metropolitan area want one? Besides the fact that terrorists like to hit major cities, there are plenty of crazies around that might like to blow stuff up too.

I hardly think DPD needs or intends to use the MaxxPro to take out someone with a handgun.

A number of states have vehicles like this for dealing with SWAT type crisis as well as in certain hurricane situations where their weight and armor make them ideal for rescue operations.

You get the derp of the week award! Congratulations!

The article I saw about the TX one also cited OH State and Tennessee getting vehicles through the same program.

The DoD is giving out MRAPS to LE agencies all over the US.

I liked the comment in the OP article how they will use the MRAP to "serve warrants"

Surely you have seen a tank before. It has a track, not tires/wheels to propel itself. This is not a tank. It is a surplus armored vehicle.

The LAPD is rather proud of all the equipment they use to police their city. Heck of a lot of firepower and equipment to protect their citizens, under the strictest gun laws in the US. Why is California's homicide rate higher than Texas?

The gun grabbing liberals are not interested in facts. It doesn't fit their agenda. They walk around with blinders on and only see what they want to see.

What we have used in the past has not worked to the point where we need tanks and SWAT vehicles - for hurricanes and rescues?

Give me a break.... laughable.
