NO IT IS NOT!!! Mt Vernon is privately owned and has been for 150 years. One should not be calling people stupid when they do not know what they are talking about.
The Federal government may be shut down, but Washington’s home remains open. Mount Vernon has remained a private non-profit for more than 150 years.
It's on NPS land. The parking lot is on NPS land. What don't you understand about that? If Mount Vernon itself is open, well good for them. What exactly is the problem?
I thought I had heard that the government, after their embarrassment at being caught kicking 90-year-old WWII veterans out of a WWII Memorial in a public area that cost the govt nothing to keep open, had relented and opened the memorial up again.
Turns out it's not so.
The government has now REINFORCED the barricades, tying them together with wire so the WWII vets who pushed them aside a few days ago, can't do it now.
This Obama administration isn't just vain and mean-spirited. They're STUPID.
On Tuesday morning, seven National Park Service employees were seen erecting and tending to a barricade around the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C. One NPS employee was operating a forklift. There usually aren't any NPS employees working at the World War II memorial.
A couple hours later, when an Honor Flight of World War II veterans arrived, accompanied by Democratic and Republican members of Congress, the fences blocking the memorial were easily moved away, allowing the veterans to enter.
But the barriers are still at the memorial, and they've been reinforced. This morning, I walked by the memorial and noticed that wires had been used to tie the fences together:
We have to pass the bill so that you can see what is in it.
I read it, it's a resolution (same thing)
Please. I'm not falling for anything anyone says in Washington. If Boener, the House, Reid and the Senate were at all interested in the welfare of veterans, or for the country as a whole, they would have locked themselves in a conference room and not come out until this matter was settled. No, they would rather make stupid shows at thw WW 2 memorial.
This is a political ploy, folks, and you're falling for it.
All parks are closed. People seem incapable of comprehending this simple fact. First theyclose the government and then they cry about the concequences. Grow up people.
"They" being the Democrats - and you are correct that the Democrat crybabies need to grow up and allow the spending bill, which was submitted by the House, to be passed.

The Republicans requested that. They put in a formal request for conference. Reid refused.
The only people who this will upset are right wing gun nuts who never saw a minute of combat in their lives.
The men who actually served in combat could care less.
My old man was a Marine in WWII, had a cigar box full of medals that we didn't even know about until after he died. He didn't own a gun his entire life, wouldn't even harm a little animal if he could help it.
He detested these memorials and the "puffed up clowns" as he put it who parade around them.
There are two kinds of abuse, physical and verbal abuse. Name calling is verbal abuse. Both forms of abuse is an attempt to control and dominate the people they attack. Verbal abuse is a kind of battering.
Name calling is an indication that the victim they are attacking is in control and shows the frustration of the people who is name calling.
What about your references to some Americans being parasites a few days ago? Isn't that name calling or an attack?
