School security should be a local concern.

Where did I type I wanted the Feds to do anything.

I wonder how many perverts and thieves they'll hire to fill the positions?
Look to the TSA for examples

The schools are already filled with them.

You must have had that idea before the Sandy Hook shooting, because the NRA suggested this immediately after the shooting.

Why does everyone call police when a shooting happens? According to you that is adding guns where there are already guns.

These mass shooter loons always target soft, "gun free" places to hit. No fear of return fire fuels their power rush. If immediate and effective armed response is on site, a target is far less inviting. Sorta takes all the fun out of it for these wackos.

Just like with rape, it's about being in control and dominating the situation. Having the power of life and death. Effective return fire rather takes that away. How is that a bad thing? It just takes schools, packed with helpless kids, off the menu as an easy target. As a parent, I find that to be desirable.

This is a myth with no data to back it up. An NRA talking point at best.

Nope ..... the NRA suggested this right before the Sandy Hook shooting. Resource Officers in schools are regular Police that are assigned to schools. This 45 Million dollar grant will fund 365 Resource officers Nation-wide. Sandy Hook will get the first 2 officers.

Quote:
Specifically, the Department of Justice said $45 million is going to “create 356 new school resource officer positions,” CNN reported. The money is coming from Community Oriented Policing Services grant dollars — and first up on the list of intended recipients is Newtown, Conn., the site of the massive Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The money to Newtown will fund two new officers in the town’s schools
I live in a City of 375,000 - we have Police Resource Officers in all the High Schools and Middle Schools, some of the Elementary schools. It was a pilot program that began in one High School in 1984 as a way to address a growing Gang Problem. It worked so well and way so popular that it was expanded. We were way ahead of the curve on this and often used as a model for other towns.

The Independent School District picks up 1/2 the cost and the City Police department picks up 1/2 the cost (which means dedicated money from 2 budgets). A police squad car is parked right at the front entrance with a reception desk in the foyer of all the schools. The NRA never suggested that the Federal Government should pick up the tab on School Security - it's a local issue.

I think it's beyond ridiculous that the DOJ is allocating money to a wealthy small town like Newtown to fund 2 Resource officers for their school out of only 365 Nationwide. It's a political move, not a security move. Adam Lanza and his Mommy were a cup and saucer short of a full place setting - the entire town had to know that, but they ignored it. This was a town where everyone knew each other and this kid was a "problem" from the time he was a child.

Data? What about logic?
Would you say gun free zones are about impossible to defend against an armed intruder?

Wrong, your statement is a myth and an anti-gun moonbat talking point that has been discredited for years.
