Starting in your 2014 benefit year, your deductables, co-pays, etc..ALL count towards your out of pocket max. That means, in most cases, folks will reach it anywhere from several hundred to a few thousand dollars quicker than before, at which point, all additional expense is covered 100%.

Most plans did NOT include such payments into that calculation before.

Good to know. I have a four or five tiered healthcare plan and I always have to argue with my insurance about how much I pay at the doctors and to apply it to my max. Maybe now I can just show them receipts and be done with it.

The way the co-pays were excluded before was deceptive. This part of the law I fully favor, as folks get a real image of maximum annual costs to them.
