You forget to take into account that Bill Gates is one of the biggest philanthropists of this generation. Every company has shady dealings, sure; however, the Koch brothers aren't giving money to charity are they? They aren't literally giving millions of dollars away towards good causes are they?

That's why.

The Koch Bros heavily fund the Fraser Institute, a Canadian "Think Tank". The Fraser Institute will say whatever you want them to say if you pay them enough. It said that tobacco smoke isn't that bad for you. Guess who own a chunk of Big Tobacco? The Kochtopus.
It said that the Oil Sands isn't that harmful to the environment. Guess who owns a big chunk of Big Oil? The Kochtopus.

He is no different than any Koch except his game is to be valiant and a caretaker to the down-trodden. That's all media spin. He and his immediate MS cronies enslaved people with this medium and they think society can be run efficiently like their software. By society, I mean human beings. You support that? Yep.

Jobs knew what sort of pretty junk people had to have and gave it to them at a hefty price. A genius marketer who understood youth need to place faith in an iconoclast and he played one to the exceptional hilt. Why do so many enjoy the outright lack of choice in Apple products? Because they like being dominated by a corporate-made image marketed by a brilliant salesman convincing them they can only appear sophisticated and fancy-free by latching themselves onto a draconian business that demanded upgrades to the newest product every 6 months or so. That is all. And he destroyed the record industry, which I appreciate.

Now why do you revere these people? I can understand Jobs, but Gates? Gates is evil pure and obvious. I don't care about the glossy magazine that foundation of his publishes on the web nor what some shill like Bono is paid to utter. Look at his doings and you will know what he is, and it ain't the great deliverer of water to sub-Saharan Africa or Mosquito netting to Indonesia and Hep B vaccines to China. That is cover.
so basically, you are scolding others for having a positive view of them based on their opinions while you have a negative view of them based on your opinion.

hypocrisy at its best.

My views of either Steve Jobs or the ominous Mr. Gates is not opinion.

But yours is.

How exactly do liberals extend grace to a monster corporatist like Bill Gates, the poster giant for fake philanthropist love? Again, I understand looking up to Jobs as aside from personal greed and a need to subvert people for the sake of perversely subverting done at his hand, he was fairly innocuous with the junk he sold, even if production was done in slave factories in China. No biggie, except contrary to the masterful campaign that informed everyone they needed an Apple in their hand. But Gates? Really, he is foul! From giving China Hep B vaccinations in order to secure support against piracy of his lame OS and securing rare earths rights to slowly altering humanity with GMO's and so much more...

What exactly is so charming about his brand of social engineering? What is so fascinating about someone who demanded everyone get a PC? I know it isn't because he cares as Google will from now on be the primary OS for people in coming years, but why defend such a visionary who really gave nothing good to humanity but an excuse to make him powerful? To buy that horrible OS? To replace other addictions with one centered on computers and opening the way for the most pervasive surveillance ever to be known thus far? People say a lot about themselves when they select who it is they defend. Why is that pile of sanctimonious PNW tripe so important we all must follow his ego as to who and what we should do and be? Everything he has done is dispensable.

personally

I respect Steve Jobs and Bill Gates more than the Koch Brothers.

at least Jobs and Gates earned/made their wealth while Koch brothers didn't. therefore Koch brothers didn't deserve or earn their right to succession.

JOBS BTW didn't create their innovation for apple Jobs was the marketer or visionary of apple. It was his friend Steve Wazniak that was the brains behind the innovation and inventions. Steve just sold them and found what people may like.

PS Wazniak was/is hacker notice it is the hackers that are the innovators of society not the businessmen.

anyway
the apple interface was taken/stolen from XEROX.

MICROSOFT themselves stolen apple's idea that they stole from xerox.
so corporate competition ensued between them as they steal from one another.

later microsoft would dominate the pc industry for 20-30 years.
windows is popular mainly because of the fact that it has many applications/software built for it and many businesses use ot
otherwise no one would care.

for Apple: people like the way it looks and they think it makes them look cool. the specs are honestly subpar and can be built for 1/2 the price apple charges. so you are paying 50% for the brand and the way it looks.
the ios platform was built for those that do not know technology which is 70-80% of the world
it was at first a failed product and so then they later transferred the kernel to unix
written in objective c or derivative of c and a sister to c++

linux is also based on unix. same family.

the new os competitor google android is based on linux but written in a variation of java by google.
if you look at the root files it is indeed linux based but slower because it was written in java.
c/c++ takes too much work java is easier to implement as the function calls are implemented already.

back to topic:

people like apple because people think it is cool until it is not.
the innovation is no longer there because the people left or they ran out of ideas.

same with microsoft: no real innovation left.

google: has some interesting ideas but they are spying on us. if we can only block the spying then I would accept google as the next big competitor to those 2.

PS please note: all of the founders of these companies were HACKERS

koch brothers? they were just silver spoon boys that never invented anything in their life just banksters.

so I prefer tech founders over worthless people.
but I dont believe they themselves were that good of people as well.

some were indeed bad some maybe good.

Steve jobs was said to be an ego maniac
Microsoft was monopolizing the industry and abusing other competitors.
google is also doing so now.

but in all cases that is what corporations do they always bully others and cut costs avoid taxation all typical.

I don't fault them for trying to pay less to others.

Bill Gates is cool and his charity work has saved the lives of over 5 million people throughout the world. And he does (fantastic) things for our public schools, ex.ex.. While he fights for rich people like himself to pay their fair share in taxes.

And lots of people think that Steve Jobs is cool.

But the Koch brothers are not cool. Their corporations give huge numbers of Americans cancer in the name of increased corporate profits, they pollute our water and air, they are trying to dismantle our Social Security system to divert that money to Wall Street, and they are trying to dismantle every government agency that threatens their corporations profits, ex.ex.ex.

The following 2 minute link shows a little bit of what the Koch brothers do.

Or as a previous poster said, they're 'cool'. Seems that's really the issue. They've managed to create a persona that allows those on the left to forgive all of those things they rail against (huge corporation, offshoring jobs, using cheap Chinese labor, record profits, etc).
