It is so interesting to see that Gates has been largely successful in the public viewing him as a philanthropist. Shoot, just ten years ago, the comments on a thread like this would have been vastly different than today. I remember when he was considered evil incarnate. Just an observation - back to the regularly scheduled program.

Fallacy: Begging the Question
Good call. You and I are on opposite sides of the political fence, but I wish we could lay off the logical fallacies in all of our arguments. I'm sure neither of us are immune to it, either, at times...but it's not good rhetorical practice and doesn't do our positions any service. Wish our respective political establishments agreed.

I don't know all that much about the Koch brothers, but Gates and Jobs are true innovators and actually created their own products, with extraordinary impact on our communication and society, so that may be part of it.

I would be interested to know what the Koch brothers have done that was equally impactful on the way we live. They may have done things I don't know about.

And so the Koch family should be regarded as American business heroes?

I think the one you're most familiar with that they own is Georgia-Pacific. The other areas of their business are in petroleum, natural gas, fertilizer, and cattle. Not a lot of favorite left wing businesses there.

Jobs is loved because of the well crafted gadgets his company produces. People choose to ignore his exploitation of offshore labor, record profits, heavy handed corporate behavior, and manipulation of tax laws.

Not a liberal, but I never thought anything about Steve Jobs. I don't get why people love him so much in general other than that he was a good business man and is connected with Apple products, which people love so indirectly I guess they love him.

I also don't think much of Bill Gates in regards to business, but I do know that he is very involved philanthropically with helping people afflicted with malaria and that his foundation provides a lot of scholarships to academically excellent high school youth who focus on STEM and that is a good thing. Also he provided quite a few millions of dollars to renovate and transform some schools here in Atlanta - the Schools of Carver comes to mind. The school is now broken up into 4 "small schools" and one - the early college, is the best public schools in the area (on paper) with over a 95% black enrollment rate when it was once one of the worse in the city. So I do have a favorable view of Gates due to that.

I only know GP with the Koch brothers business-wise. I think they involve themselves too much in politics and that is why people don't like them. If Bill Gates' foundation sought to influence legislatures and help to craft bills on issues not relating to business or technology, THEN I would have more of an issue with him.

To add, the left NEVER complains about Soros, who isn't even an American.

As opposed to Romney, who was crying bitter tears as he outsourced jobs to China? Kind of like that?

Bald assertion, possibly. Definitely not begging the question.
