Destroying the people's trust in their institutions by "proving the system is broken"- by breaking it-is one of the goals of the TP monkey wrench gang in the HR.
You have to ask yourselves- what do the Koch Bros et al intend to replace our imperfect, messy democracy with?

"Obamacare" should NOT have been a dog in this fight. Most rational Republicans knew that. But the crazy Cruz faction was DETERMINED to shut down the government. Michele Bachmann was crowing about how happy her party was!

I personally think o and Valerie Jarrett are behind the whole of the 'do whatever it takes' attitude and action taken by the NPS, the holding back of funds to families of soldiers and all the ludicrous petty partisan crap in the limelight.
Both sides of the isle are equally to blame for the shutdown. Anyone who thinks differently is nothing but a partisan hack. The disgusting trash are anyone who willingly calls themselves either a republican or democrat at this point.

There would not be a shutdown if extremist conservatives had not decided to use the shutdown as leverage to unfairly re-litigate their losses on ACA. Again, the parks are closed because of the zealous conservative strategy.
