I have to wonder the wisdom of just saying, "Well, the middle class needs to pare down lifestyle expectations and stop spending so much." How would that affect the economy?

It recently came out that the average new car is officially out of reach for most middle class families. What kind of effect does that have on the economy?
And you liberals think that all these illegal immigrants are going to help? Don't let dems sell you a bunch of BS that they are good for the economy. Hey I would like it, cheaper labor but there is a saying, sharpen the saw which means our country and it's people must be taken care of first before we can help others.

So when the middle class gets into way more debt than they can handle it doesn't cause a bad economy? Take care of your own finances and make sure you can survive through any economy. That's the problem, the poor and the middle class never plan for the future. There will always be situations beyond your control. Just because you have a job and get paid today does not mean you will have one tomorrow.

The best thing the middle class can do is pay off all debt, learn personal finance, learn to budget. Stop trying to be rich when you're not. Stop worrying about everyone liberals tell you to worry about, sharpen your own saw and get your financial house in order. Plan and take action for your own "freedom". And only then can you be in the position to help others.

Look at something you "own". A big screen TV or that cool pair of sneakers with someone name on it. How much do you make an hour? How many hours did you have to work to own it? That's not freedom.

Millionaire Mindset:
a way of thinking and acting that invites and maintains an overflow of abundance; a special way of relating to money in a way that attracts it to you. A millionaire mindset is a system of beliefs and actions that cause one to have a positive relationship and respect for money. ..

“You have to believe that you are the one who creates your success, you are the one who creates your mediocrity and you are the one creating your struggle around money. Consciously or unconsciously, it’s still you.”

Not really, in a more free market, many people would be able to live more cheaply than they do now, which means their struggle around money is partly the fault of government.

By making better decisions.

Been there, done that. You are very long on arguing that the poor are not responsible for being poor.
