Yes -- if someone wants and can afford many children -- more power to them, they should have as many as they want and that they can support.

But the government should not be confiscating the income of anyone to pay for irresponsible breeders who have many kids just to collect the handouts.

There is no reason to pay irresponsible people to breed which is what welfare does. Tax cuts on working people with families would be a better approach.

That was the origonal intent when it was first structured during the Reagan admin. Since then, it has been used to prevent ANYTHING other than abstinence from being taught/councelled as a way to prevent pregnancy or STDs. Which, in turn, results in more pregnancies, as well as more STDs and more women dying in childbirth.

People should limit the number of children they have but unfortunately this is not a politically popular idea. As for it being a right... well, there will come a time when people wish that somebody showed some self-restraint or restraint on their fellow man. By 2040 the US will have a population of 400 million if trends continue. With 8-9 billion potential people in the world, the world food supply will be in peril and billions will risk starvation or malnutrition, especially if the US and developed nations continue to pursue a biofuels strategy for their energy.

This shouldn't be about "Welfare queens". Even when middle-class John and Jane Doe in their McMansions decide to have kids, it adds up. Every kid in the US grows up to be another adult who drives miles to work from his McMansion, gobbling up the worlds fossil fuels, using water to lawn his crop of St. Augustine or what have you. They'll demand bigger, wider roads, more room for their houses, etc. It all adds up, it doesn't matter if you live in the ghetto or out in a gated community and are a "responsible" person who pays their taxes. Let's not make this a classist issue. Overpopulation is an issue that every social class or race has a stake in, it's not just somebody else's problem.

Besides, the idea that poor people in the US have alot of children is mostly not true. If you look at the benefits, most of them go to working-class and middle-class people, that's the only time that having children really starts to break even. Otherwise having kids costs money. Some poor people do have kids even when they can't afford them, for a variety of reasons, but it's a generalization to say most poor people are baby factories.

Absolutely not. You should have children when you are ready to support and take care of them. Have as many as you can afford and remember they are a blessing!

The USA is not growing rapidly in population due to the birth rate of Americans, it is growing extremely fast due to immigration and the very high birth rate of especially illegals.

An American woman is likely to wait until after age 25 to 30 to have children and many American women have 0-2 children, a few have more, very few have many.

What's causing the population to double so rapidly is massive uncontrolled immigration of a high birth rate group. Half of Mexican women have children before age 20 -- many at a very early age and by the time they're 30, their daughters are having children.
