Is your Congressman supporting this? Read the entire article and I think that this is something everyone can agree is a horrible thing for the USA to be privy to.

Quote:
A world without democracy, ruled by a technocratic elite serving the interests of US and global capital - protecting "investor rights" against national laws and regulations - is now being created in secret negotiations over free-trade treaties, one of which, the TransPacific Parnership (TPP), may be sewn up this fall. Can popular will stop it?

A major NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll from September of 2010 revealed that "the impact of trade and outsourcing is one of the only issues on which Americans of different classes, occupations and political persuasions agree, with 86 percent saying that outsourcing jobs by US companies to poor countries was "a top cause of our economic woes," and 69 percent thinking that "free-trade agreements between the United States and other countries cost the United States jobs." Only 17 percent of Americans in 2010 felt that "free-trade agreements" benefit the United States - compared to 28 percent in 2007.

Looks like Ross Perot was prescient when he told us about that "giant sucking sound."

The aim of the corporate state is not to feed, clothe or house the masses, but to shift all economic, social and political power and wealth into the hands of the tiny corporate elite. It is to create a world where the heads of corporations make $900,000 an hour and four-job families struggle to survive. The corporate elite achieves its aims of greater and greater profit by weakening and dismantling government agencies and taking over or destroying public institutions. Charter schools, mercenary armies, a for-profit health insurance industry and outsourcing every facet of government work, from clerical tasks to intelligence, feed the corporate beast at our expense. The decimation of labor unions, the twisting of education into mindless vocational training and the slashing of social services leave us ever more enslaved to the whims of corporations. The intrusion of corporations into the public sphere destroys the concept of the common good. It erases the lines between public and private interests. It creates a world that is defined exclusively by naked self-interest.

I agree that the Democratic party has not done enough to reverse this, but seriously, get some facts before you post mindless crap.

TPP, Trans-Pacific Partnership is the ultimate corporate power tool, free-trade it is not.
They want to fast track it, so it stays behind closed doors and gets little time for open discussion. Corporations and banks run this country, and seek to wield their power globally.

Lori Wallach, Director of Public Citizen's Global Trade Watch said, “At the last TPP Summit in 2011, heads of state announced they had a deal when they did not and since then opposition to the very notion that closed-door “trade” negotiations with 600 official corporate advisors should rewrite wide swaths of 12 countries domestic laws has only grown in the U.S. and in other TPP counties. This TPP we-have-a-deal kabuki theatre is aimed at trying to create a sense of inevitability when in fact the talks are deadlocked in no small part because increasingly people in the countries involved are realizing that TPP is not mainly about trade, but would promote more job offshoring, raise medicine prices and roll back vital food safety, financial and other safeguards we all rely on.”

TPP: Corporate Power Tool of the 1%

Have you heard? The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) “free trade” agreement is a stealthy policy being pressed by corporate America, a dream of the 1 percent, that in one blow could:
  • offshore millions of American jobs,
  • free the banksters from oversight,
  • ban Buy America policies needed to create green jobs and rebuild our economy,
  • decrease access to medicine,
  • flood the U.S. with unsafe food and products,
  • and empower corporations to attack our environmental and health safeguards.
Closed-door talks are on-going between the U.S. and Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam; with other countries, including China, potentially joining later. 600 corporate advisors have access to the text, while the public, Members of Congress, journalists, and civil society are excluded. And so far what we know about what's in there is very scary!

Thank you for starting this thread. Exposure is going to be what kills this power grab. This should be one topic where democrats and republicans can work together against this, once they become informed. The only ones in favor of this would be globalists who want the corporations to have even more monopolies and power over us.

Watchout!
You will be sterilized by accusations of isolationism.

Trade Tariffs are what kept use strong as a nation, until the Progressives got a hold on the economy 100 years ago and have reduced tariffs slowly over time, to nothing.

in 2000 the China free trade act was passed. Look when our nation started outsourcing everything, like a land rush.

The great powers are reverting back to imperial colonialism, the highest stage of capitalism. Instead of military forces enforcing it now as it was in prior ages corporate lawyers backed by international tribunes will be the new enforcers.
