Should stores be open on thanksgiving? When Black Friday comes, big box stores open on thanksgiving to increase profits. For example, Walmart, Toys R Us, Target, Macy's, Sears, JCPenny, Best Buy, etc are all opening at 8:00PM. And employees must be there early, like 3-4:00. Movie theaters and open all day! Grocery stores are open until noon. So, should stores have the right to be open on thanksgiving or be closed.
I don't feel employees should have to work on any holiday, however, there are people, who live alone, who do not celebrate holidays with family and friends. Many people volunteer at shelters and serve a thanksgiving meal to those less fortunate. So on the other hand, there are people who don't mind working on a holiday.

You ask the wrong question. The correct question should be - Should people SHOP on Thanksgiving?
If people didn't shop. then stores wouldn't be open.
People and business will do what people and business do. But if you're a business that opens on holidays and then talks about "family values" I will LOL.
you want equality - have the vegetarians work on thanksgiving,,,and the non christians, or anyone else who is offended by a christmas tree work on christmas- it is quite hypocritical to say "merry christmas" offends you then happily take a vacation day and pay for christmas holiday
years ago most all the stores were closed on thanksgiving.....
then the folks that had thanksgiving off, voted to open the stores so they could shop,,,without ANY consideration for the employees who have to work at them store,,
just like when Sunday laws changes-again,,all the people that didnt have to work the weekends, voted to shop the weekends,,,,without any consideration of the employees who have to work,,
what if i wanted to register my car on sunday??? oh yes,,im shyt out of luck,,because state employees dont work the weekends,,,,but i guess its ok for everyone else to

Thats not fair...they have Tofurky Honestly though, I think that no store should be opened on Thanksgiving or Christmas. We should all be off the same days as the government, state, and county workers.
Why should a store be told when it should and shouldn't be open? It is 100% up to the owners/boss as to be open or not on thanksgiving. Employees know that going into the job. If that bothers them, then they should get another type of job that won't require it. And retail usually isn't going to be one of those other types of jobs.
You don't think stores should be open, then don't shop on that day. If they had no business then they wouldn't be open. But judging by the amount of people who go shopping it must be worthwhile.
