He did not need to compromise on something that was not up for further debate or discussion because it was the LAW.
That word does not mean anything to Teabaggers like Cruz, whose sole intent is to disrupt the workings of government, much to the delight of their reactionary, low information supporters.
That they offer nothing in return, or share any willingness themselves with working with others, is also conveniently ignored to further their fantasy about bringing change to government by simply keeping it from functioning.
You're forgetting Obama's role in this. How easy for the left to ignore that Obama said he was not negotiating. Period. Talk about disruption of the workings of government. He pushed us all into the shutdown. Dems knew they would, so that everyone would blame the Republicans.
Ever stop to think... how did they manage to have all those shutdown signs ready everywhere instantly? They had them made in advance because they knew they'd shut down the government. They went into shutdown mode so smoothly that you can bet they were ready and itching for it.

It's refreshing to see someone like him in D.C. Many good people go to Washington, but change when they get there. Who wants to be relegated to an office in a basement closet? That's where the establishment puts you unless you 'cooperate'.
Yep, Cruz is his own man, and they won't muzzle him.
I think his message is that he's telling the Senate (and everyone else listening) he's the new sheriff there and everything is going to have to go through him.... whether they like it or not.
He could stay true to his principles and still not go tilting windmills like he did though. Honestly though, I think the republican legislature dislikes him more than the Democratic legislature does. For the Dems. he is the gift that keeps on giving. Don't you think?
No, he might not need 99 friends, but he is in it for the exact same reason as those other 99 . . . That would be aversion to real work and to collect lobbyist money and other shady manipulations for monitory gain.
We didn't come here to make friends, we brought our own.
In 10 months on the job, the lobbyist don't even knock on his door anymore.
That would be an excellent sign, wouldn't it. If only lobbyists were to give up on more politicians in D.C. we'd see far more progress in the right direction, for the right reasons.
The federal government is paying him $174,000 a year, plus expenses, staff and benefits to spend 3 years fund raising for his run at the 2016 GOP nomination.

His chances of making it in 2016 are about the same as Bachmann's or Santorum's chances in 2012. Why do people keep throwing money in those directions? What a waste.
