Ma and Pa need to lay the lay down but the child needs to know they will defend them from others. That to me is a sacred trust and calling the cops on your own kids is breaking that trust.
Same here. I wouldn't have spanked them because they are too old for that, but I would make them to labor around the house and outside as punishment, even carrying buckets of stones for no reason.

What is the great difference between that and spanking?

Hate them? No way. They call the cops because they love them. Some kids won't listen to parents but they will listen to cops. I know a few teens who wouldn't listen to their parents but had the fear of god put into them by cops lol

I guess the answer is to do nothing, right?

Spanking is humiliating and degrading for a teenager; plus at that age, it can carry negative sexual overtones. Not appropriate for anyone that has reached puberty. But, I don't advocate spanking as the first and only resort. For me, spanking should be the last resort.

Teenagers need to be disciplined. I don't know what your cultural background is, but in mine, when the child reaches puberty, punishment goes from spanking to doing work that you hate like the household chores. When I have kids and they become teenagers, if they pull stunts like this, I might be feeling that all the walls are gonna need a new coat of paint...

Punishing your kid by pointing your finger at them while saying, "No! No! Bad Susie/Johnny!" is not discipline. It might work for the family dog, but your kids are not dogs. Or, do you think calling the cops on your kids is a better idea? Get them a criminal record that will follow them for the rest of their lives? Now THAT is an injustice as a parent, especially for a petty crime such as this

To the person who repped me: Lol!

My culture is just ordinary white working class, but I certainly would've been spanked for that at 15 or 16.

Many states in the union still retain spanking in high school.

LOL... I have a better one. Have them dig two holes as far as apart as possible and then have them fill each hole with the other holes dirt....

My Brother's got caught egging a neighbors house when we were young. They scrubbed the entire house for an entire Sat. That was it for the egging.

My punishment was always paint the hallway which ran the entire length of the upstairs and it was looooooooong house.

I remember being in elementary school and getting detention for talking in class. In the detention room, we had to sit and look at the clock. No talking or putting our heads on the desk was allowed. I had to sit and watch the clock for 30 minutes. The time crawled by torturously. They never saw me twice in that room.
