It seems to me there are two groups, Israelis and Palestinians, who want the same piece of land. There will not be peace until one side gives up vountarily or is forced to give up.
It also seems to me that both sides are very tough and stubborn. I'm glad I don't have a dog in that fight.
Yes, there can and will be peace in the Middle East. However, I do want to point out that the conflict(s) in the Middle East isn't only about Israel and Palestine--for instance, just look at Syria right now.
Also, I would probably agree with these proposals (in this link) other than for the fact that I would want (perhaps non-binding) referendums to occur in each Arab neighborhood of East Jerusalem to see whether or not the residents in these neighborhoods prefer to remain a part of Israel or to become a part of Palestine.
Looks nice on paper, but so does the word "negotiations."
