I was just joking with my Mom about this not too long ago and she said why do we even need this? The cavemen and people from say, pre 1800 didn't have it either. So what would it be like worldwide, if we didn't have any time zones? Any one have a good answer?

Prior to the 19th Century, cities around the world kept their own time with instruments recording the sun's zenith at noon. Once trains came on the scene, we needed a uniform time so trains wouldn't crash into each other.

Daylight Savings Time was added recently to save energy, and to make better use of the evening daylight hours in the summer. Many countries, and even some locales in the USA don't observe Daylight Savings Time.

First, time zones and Daylight Savings Time are not even remotely similar.

There have always been time zones. The Earth has a radius of 3,959 miles (6,371 km), which gives it a circumference of 24,874 miles (40,030 km), and since the planet takes 24 hours to make a complete rotation, it means that every 1,036 miles around the equator is another time zone. Or, another way of saying the exact same thing: "The planet Earth rotates at 1,036 miles per hour."

Daylight Savings Time, on the other hand, is entirely a construct of a diseased liberal mind and has absolutely no bearing on anything that has to do with reality.

I believe there is a law that a state has to go either all DST or no DST.

Nope. Indiana didn't although I believe they do now. Evansville and Terre Haute are roughly 100 miles apart and are on different times. Indiana's now has two different time zones, and if I remember correctly in the mid 2000's they decided how to do daylight savings. Several counties observed it... several didn't.

Indiana
I used to live in far eastern Illinois, I know about the Indiana time zones issue. A 2005 law required them to either all go DST or none go DST.

Indiana
