Actually an expired photo ID should be valid to use because it has the person's name and photo on it. Just like one should be able to use their student ID as well.
Not in Texas. A 2 year old expired drivers license is not VALID in Texas.
I have yet to hear a reasonable explanation of how requiring voter ID is suppression of voters..
For the poor and elderly, it is a hardship to get a voter ID. It is estimated that millions of people will not be able to vote if a voter ID is required. All that to reduce voter fraud that has been measured as infinitesimal.
But voter ID laws, while not solving the non-existent voter fraud problem, do solve a different problem: keeping "those people" from voting.
Voting is a privilege as well as a right. Sometimes you have to earn a privilege. I find it hard to accept that if someone really wants to vote that they can't over a years time make it to their local DMV to obtain an identification with the proper verification of identity. The "POOR" in this country are simply not that poor that if they have the real desire to vote they can accomplish it.. The same applies to the elderly. Sometimes you have to make a sacrifice...

No, driving is a privilege where you have to pass a driver's test to drive. There is no voter test, once you turn 18 you have the right to vote.

No, you have to be a citizen as well as not be a felon. These things have to be checked for verification and the facilities are not available at your local convenience store.

That doesn't make it a privilege, it is still a right

The ONLY rights you have are the ones you are willing to exercise. Sometimes exercising those rights requires some effort and some dedication. If you aren't willing to do whatever is needed to vote then you aren't too terribly interested in exercising your rights. It really isn't that difficult to do what is needed in order to exercise your rights. I'm sorry that you don't consider the right to vote as a privilege but perhaps if you lived in a nation that doesn't offer you those rights, maybe you would see things differently.

That is false, one should haven't to jump through hoops to exercise their right to vote. If you have an ID with your photo on it or are willing to sign your name to an affidavit to swear it is you, then that is all that should be needed.

A DL isn't a "right". Is everything in America slowly becoming "a right" now ?
