No, he wouldn't. Forbe's has ranked Washington's football 3rd most valuable in the NFL (The DC area is one of the most valuable in all of sports.). The cost of rebranding the team would be a fortune, and the owners of NFL teams don't do it for charity. The valuable fan base is already in place, and Washington's football franchise just isn't offending enough of them to bother to incur those costs. This is a matter of classiness, not wealth.

Redskins fans would not care if the name was changed and they would buy all the jerseys and everything else with the new team logo so snyder loses nothing.

A football franchise isn't much different than any other franchise. Do you think that if McDonald's changed their "yellow arches" to an orange circle that it wouldn't cost them money? Of course it would! This is a matter of capitalism; not racial sensitivity.

You can't compare the two. The new name and logo products would be bought by millions. How would mcdonalds changing their color do anything. It's food. No one cares lol

Of course I can compare the two. You clearly don't understand how much money goes into marketing. Maybe half of the people that have paid $800 for their family to go to a Redskins could name a player on the team other than RGIII.

Changing the name may be pc, but it's also the right thing to do. We, as a species, don't need to offend, degrade, and marginalize people; especially not on the face of one of the most profitable sports franchises in the world.

I get that people are resistant to change, but sometimes change is warranted.

So it's not what is done but who does it that matters?

Of course not, but pointing out who created the name does add context when people try and use the argument that preserving the Redskin name is somehow preserving history. In order to really discuss this, we need to be clear that this "history" is about the football franchise, and is not some honorable nod to Native Americans. The guy that named his football team the Redskins didn't do so in some naive faux pas; it was an intentional use of a racial slur. As a culture, we've changed a lot since the Redskin name was allowed. Will a name-change end all racism in America? No, but that doesn't mean that Redskin name shouldn't be changed.
