The name has persisted over the past few months for a number of reasons. First, the Board of Directors was at a Mexican standoff over whether to change the name or not. Then to consider alternatives, they went through a couple of Chinese fire drills. After they identified a likely new name, they spent some time trying to jew down the cost of new signage and logos. So it takes a while.

Probably because the team owners, and everybody else who wasn't a liberal, realized that the only people who were even interested were a bunch of chronic whiners who made a living from being mortally offended over everything.

And they were practical enough to realize that the name of a football team is about as significant as the name of a pet rock.

So, what we can infer from this thread is that racist people don't mind racist sports team names?

If you're a sour-faced, unhappy leftist loser who's looking for something else to be angry about, yes, you can. You won't be right, but when has that ever stopped you?

That was funny!

What's no so funny is the folks that can't grasp that words only have meanings that we apply to it, and not every word is going to be banned from existence because it was used in a negative way one time. We have the luxury of being a thinking species (mostly) and can recognize things for what they are...and what they AREN'T. We are not going to clear the planet of everything that ever had a negative connotation and only someone with extreme ocd about PCisms would even try.

From now on they will be known simply as the Redskins!

I'm so glad they finally saw how truly offensive the word "Washington" was to ALL Americans.

Uh; what about the Fighting Irish? That's def a stereotype of "Irish" people and not always good. Mn Vikings or even the Boston Celtics? Oh; that's right: they're usually "white" groups so it's Ok for a dark skin dude to be associated with with them but NOT the other way.

Thing is, the Washington Redskins sports team that was founded by a well-known racist. The name has it's roots in racism, and the name offends people. Why don't we, as a species, recognize that this is a sports team that can literally be named anything, so why have we settled on a racial slur? Changing the name may be pc, but it's also the right thing to do. We, as a species, don't need to offend, degrade, and marginalize people; especially not on the face of one of the most profitable sports franchises in the world.

I get that people are resistant to change, but sometimes change is warranted.

The American Indian logo on the helmet looks honorable and dignified a far cry from the political swamp critters that is Washington ...
