There are all kinds of early signs and later signs. Constant put downs, criticism, control over social life. Threats tend to come later, and are a sign the abuse is becoming advanced and for sure time to bail. Extreme jealousy, infidelity from either party, are also warning signs as well as alcohol and drug use.

Which of these signs do you suppose George Zimmerman has been displaying before he started threatening with his gun?

IMO.
I am not blaming the "thing" that you want an abusive person to have.

Conclusion, it would be best if wife beaters didn't own guns.
Same can be said for husband abusers too. Watch ID channel, there are MANY women that abuse their husbands and poison them and shoot them and stab them. Men aren't the only ones doing these things.

Background checks are useless if people are allowed to privately buy and sell guns.
Got any other ideas... Background checks on private sales require a central database ....aka Gun registration.

That's not going to happen, so keep thinking of solutions that can happen.

Nine women are shot to death by their husband or partner every week in America.

How are we any different than the Taliban when women are being killed like this? Nine women per week is over 100 times the number who were killed in the Benghazi attack, per year, yet the right-wingers don't care.

GUNZ R EVIL MANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN; who knows what that poster's point is and contemplating what goes through the mind of liberals is really a pointless use of thought by conservatives.

That's not true. That's the whole point. A gun makes murder more likely. Because it makes it far easier.

Don't believe me? Try telling the military to give up its rifles and switch to hammers.
