Cop shoots at car full of children | MSNBC I had to watch this after seeing it posted on another forum. It was so interesting, I thought no way this form post could be accurate. Yep it was. Lawrence Odonnall from MSNBC had a piece on a woman who was pulled over for gong 72 in a 55 and he starts the piece off as "no one goes 55 in that area" Then he shows the full video. The cop pulls the woman over and says he is going to give her a ticket and says to turn off the car. He walks back to his patrol car and as he gets in to write a simple ticket she drives off, yep just drives off. The cop follows calls for back up and when she stops he opens the door and tells her to get out, she resists and then her 14yo son get out and assaults the cop, they both get back in the car and by now there are other cops there, and as she avoids the other cop cars and drives off a second cop shoots at the tire. Here is were LO goes bat crap crazy, the cops are at fault for pulling over a black woman, and then shooting at the tire is akin to trying to kill the kids in the car. Yep its the cops fault according to LO. He then goes on a stupid rant that is so far out of the world of reality its sick. This woman is the only one to blame here. She was arrested and so was her 14yo son. By driving away she put her family in danger, its her fault alone. not the cop, and the cop who shot at her tire is trying to stop they don't know what, Remember the other black lady in DC running around like a nut and the police shooting her? She got exactly what she asked for also. Its just stupid to attack the police for extreme bad behavior on the part of the woman, she needs her kids taken away and to go to jail for a year to think better of it.

I don't know that case, but I have always held the view that policemen are not supposed to use more violence than they encounter. Their purpose should be to solve problems with as little damage to human life as possible. There is no need for anyone to die because of a minor thing such as a woman with a child trying to escape the police for whatever reason.
This case does not really match the title as the policemen were not shooting at the woman, which is what the title suggests, though. In that case I would also agree that it would be totally inadequate unless the woman shoots at them first. And even if that were the case, maybe it would be better to just wait for her to have used up her ammo and get a shrink to talk to her and make her give up.
The policeman in this case was clearly shooting at the tire. You can see that in the video. He was trying to STOP an obviously rampaging psychologically disturbed woman from driving off and getting into a high speed pursuit and possibly killing those kids. I am not saying he used good judgement but I think his intentions were to save lives and not harm people. As for lethal force, the police sometimes have to use it. It is part of their job and we should stand behind the policeman's right to defend himself and the lives of others from rampaging idiots. That said, there are some cases where the police have used very bad judgement. Eleanor Bumpers was one such case. An old woman standing on her stoop with a knife 25 feet from the policeman and not charging him should not be shot dead even if she would not put the knife down. There are many less than lethal ways to deal with such people. But overall I will support the police for the most part.
Have we forgotten the Washington DC car shooting already? They were heroes then, why not now?
Anyway, its fun to see the folks on MSNBC go monkey mad over things other people discuss rationally.
this is just another case of the person who committed a simple traffic offense choosing to escalate the situation, and the cops responding accordingly. if the woman had just waited until the cop had come back and given her the ticket, then none of this would have happened, she wouldnt be in jail with her 14 y/o son, and she and her kids would be in rio grande or wherever she really wanted to go. sorry but she escalated the situation, not the cops.
Another post, complaining about black people. It never ends.
