“This exponential increase means that in fifteen years we are likely to be discussing whether people should be allowed to drive--because autonomous vehicles may be much less error prone than people.”

Becuase they know all this from your cell phone already. This is just a tool to help self driving vehicles. And I for one desperately want a self driving car. Seriously, it would be a better driver then humans, AND I could read on my way to work.

Or imagine a RV with this? Just have it drive you to new parks while you sleep. Most awesome RV EVER.

I don't think the Tea Partiers will like that much. Next thing they will want to know the speed of mobility scooters.

7-10 mph with a range of up to 25 miles for some models.....which was actually kinda impressive.

And I assure you the government already knows this from peoples cell phones....

cell phones only give gps locations, and from that you can extrapolate speed. everything else they want is not available from a cell phone. which is why i prefer cars no later than the late 90s for the most part. in fact my next car will likely be something from the mid 80s as a daily driver, and any system upgrades i make will be aftermarket ones that have no data connection to the outside world.

With the number of CATV cameras deployed on almost every intersection by city governments why is this such a big deal?

All the NHTSA is doing is playing catch-up to most of the cities in America...

Americans lost their right to privacy by their lack of voting, lack of interest in current events and sheer frigging stupidity and now they are getting what they deserve...
