"A Hawaii legislator says he's putting down the sledgehammer he carried to destroy stolen shopping carts used by homeless people to carry belongings in Waikiki."

"He says the question is now whether something will be done to address the eyesores."

Lawmaker ends shopping cart destruction campaign - SFGate

______________

I'm so , so , very , sorry that it's an "eye sore" for a rich legislator to have to look at shopping carts in the city. He has it so , so very rough.

I think he looks pretty ugly. Maybe he should be forced to buy plastic surgery, and avoid us the eye sore.

He should have just confiscated them and contacted the area stores to find the real owners. Shopping carts are expensive. Bums are not entitled to them.

Thank you! It's so refreshing to see someone make certain the truth is reported.

Oh really? He's trying to eliminate homeless people. Isn't that what cons advocate? Why aren't you supporting him?

so we should be happy that he STOLE property from some else who STOLE that property from the rightful owner who paid good money for that property, and then after STEALING that STOLEN property, he then VANDALISED that STOLEN property? so in other words he committed at least two crimes for each shopping cart he VANDALISED, and yet he isnt in JAIL facing criminal charges? why should i be happy about that?

this is one of the big problems we have in society today, when our elected officials can go out and openly commit crimes, and confess to those crimes, AND NO ONE CARES, we have a huge problem here. the fact is that he should be arrested, and charged with several counts of criminal activity, and at the very least, if found guilty, be forced to pay restitution to the rightful owners, and be forced to resign from office. instead what will probably happen is the voters will put him back in office, or even into a higher office as a reward for criminal activity.

Default Hawaii Leglislator Stole and Destroyed Shopping Carts from Homeless. Media purposely leaves out fact he is a Democrat.

I can't blame Democrats, I'd be ashamed to claim this azzhat also.

(Speaking of hats - can't help but notice the dichotomy Brower's Armani ball cap adds to his crusade.)

The Honolulu newspaper, from which the SFGate publication picked-up the story, clearly identified the party affiliation of the state legislator. An SFGate editor made the choice as to what to include and what not ... in the reprint. But anyone above the 6th grade who uses the internet understands how to look for information ... if they're interested. For people who enjoy trolling on all sorts of subjects, expecially the America-haters, they stop at the headline level because I don't think they understand much more than that.

Here's a portion of a report appearing in a Honolulu newspaper:

House member calls off shopping cart raids

After criticism and bad publicity for the state, Rep. Brower puts down his sledgehammer

By Allison Schaefers

POSTED: 01:30 a.m. HST, Nov 20, 2013

State Rep. Tom Brower is packing away the sledgehammer he has used through the past few weeks
to wreck stolen and abandoned shopping carts homeless people use to carry their belongings.

"It's time to put down the sledgehammer. The point that I was trying to make has been made," Brower
(D, Ala Moana-Waikiki)
told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser on Tuesday. "Now that the issue of shopping carts is on our minds, the question is, "Are we going to move forward and try to solve it or just let it become status quo?"

Not sure what his party affiliation has to do with the story. He is just stupid.

Republicans are very rare in Hawaii. If he had been a Republican, that in itself would have been a story.
