The Federal Government was never given the power to establish any kind of charity system. The clause of the Constitution which empowers government to provide for the general welfare means that it must provide for all people equally.

To take from one citizen and give to another is not in the welfare of all the people. When you take away the illegal practice of stealing money from people to run a charity system then this entire question is moot.
Set taxes at 50%, distribute the result equally. there you go "general welfare". Seriously the vast majority thinks that social security and the like are a good thing.

Look I have heard this argument before, I even sympathize with it to some degree, however the courts have held that this is within the constitution. I dont agree with many things ruled constitutional, I think states rights have been pushed off too much with the commerce clause. But heres the thing-the supreme court disagrees, and thats how our system works-they get to make that decision. Its not a requirement that we all agree with it.

The more on the government dole, the more control the government has, and this is the perfect storm for tyranny. Because who do you think all the welfare recipients will vote for? Those who will give them more free stuff.
What about the wealthy tax dodgers? Should their voting rights be taken away? Afterall, they are still cheating the system and not paying their fair share just like those able bodied leeches on welfare.

I do believe most people pay a tax on items they purchase, some states even have it set up where someone's labor is taxed.

Everyone pays some kind of a tax.
Again, when they pay tax on an item when the money was given to them in the first place, is this really a tax from their own money?

I don't mind paying taxes if it's fair!

Anyone who asks for hand-outs, increasing my taxes, and not paying their fair share I don't believe should have the right to vote.

So people running corporations that we bail out shouldn't be allowed to vote?

Why are people being ridiculous? It's obvious the subject is welfare recipients who vote just to get free stuff and know nothing about the consequences. Why do you think liberals bus them in by the hundreds during election time? Because they don't think, they just stand around with their hand out.

The government shouldn't be bailing out corporations...that's not what they are there for!

Of course those on government assistance will vote to get free services. This is tragic for America! It's no doubt our system is broken. If the poor's vote gets bigger, we will for sure be a socialistic country and will be in BIG TROUBLE!
1) It was not the case in 1776, but today any citizen over 18 can vote. Since 1922 even women can participate (if you didn't hear yet).
2) Although it may surprise you, not every election is about government assistance and money. Sometimes there are other issues to be decided.
3) Your argument is the best I can think of, to minimize poverty in US. In order to avoid this poor majority, maybe is time for conservatives to consider how to create more decently payed, livable jobs. Now you have a real incentive...
