If Elizabeth Warren is emerging as a kind of spokeswoman for the new economic populism that many Democratic activists want the party to embrace heading into 2014 and 2016, this speech that Warren is currently delivering on the floor of the Senate suggests the push to expand Social Security could become a key issue in the argument over the Democratic Party of the future.

“Social Security isn’t the answer to all of our retirement problems. We need to find ways to tackle the financial squeeze that is crushing our families. We need to help families start saving again. We need to make sure that more workers have access to better pensions. But in the meantime – so long as these problems continue to exist and so long as we are in the midst of a real and growing retirement crisis – a crisis that is shaking the foundations of what was once a vibrant and secure middle class – the absolute last thing we should be doing is talking about cutting back on Social Security.

Elizabeth Warren: Don’t cut Social Security. Expand it!
Warren's policies are exactly what the shrinking middle class needs right now...as opposed to the Ayn Rand philosophies that the GOP/Teapublicans are pushing.

I agree with her, she has been a favorite of mine for a while and would love to see her one day run for president.

Actually I am curious where Gunz gets his math from. Care to share with us how you came to that number?

Warren is reflecting the views of most Americans when it comes to Social Security. She's undoubtedly familiar with the NASI study on American's opinions on Social Security and what should be done to fix it published earlier this year.

This is the kind of proposal that the Tea Party will have a hard time dealing with. They hate government programs but only those that don't benefit them. The Tea Party loves Medicare, SS, Defense Spending, and VA specifically. If someone is handing out money look for a Tea Partier to be first in line.

And holding a sign that says "keep your government hands off my Medicare."
