Without a doubt, Oklahomans are simply gonna have to wake up to the fact that the only way to get the drug problem under better control is to legalize drugs, especially marijuana. Seizing 400 pounds of marijuana is just a drop in the bucket because some years back I read an article in the Oklahoman in which it was stated that narcs only seize about 10% of the drugs in the underground market. So you might say drugs, like marijuana, are already 90% of the way legalized. But in a totally unregulated and dangerous way.

Legalize, regulate and tax marijuana and at last underaged looking kids in Oklahoma will get asked to show an ID before they can buy marijuana. The way it works now the government is helpless to really do much about marijuana because when you ban a substance there's no way you can make laws regulating it, because it's not supposed to exist!

Oklahoma's wise Will Rogers was able to see how banning a substance doesn't work when he said that prohibition is better than no whiskey at all.

Actually, the mexican drug cartels are not the reason we have a drug problem.

The drug cartels are simply supplying a demand.

There is a strange concept called FREEDOM. And it is a double edged sword. It also means freedom to choose the wrong things in life.

As long as americans want to get high, there will be someone to step in and supply the drugs for that habit. I see it everyday. Men and women enticed with a $2000 to $4000 payoff.

Mexicans might make $10/day in their own country. Two thousand dollars is a lot of money down there. And obviously worth the risk of a 10 year sentence *(for a first offender).

WELL SAID and FOUR CHEERS for you, (instead of three)...this is true of SO MUCH of modern life, including illegal immigration. We are the most powerful nation on EARTH....things aren't usually "done to us"...we DO THEM TO OURSELVES !....
Our "crappy" MTV culture, horrible coarse public "manners", practically non-existent civic pride, disrespectful, out-of-control teenagers, and the white-collar "crooks" we elect into public office, are all things WE'VE DONE TO OURSELVES. Nobody else is responsible for our rapidly-disintegrating culture, except US.......this is (for now) still a FREE COUNTRY.

Of course we have freedom of choice, but young kids can't be counted on to make the correct decision in these instances. Smooth talkers have gotten many youngsters addicted to drugs.

Yes, and many Mexicans that live along the border bemoan the fact that the out of control drug demand by Americans has turned their formely peaceful communities into battlefields and turf wars for the drug gangs, who also buy all their weapons in the US where it is as we all know very easy to buy. The Mexican President has gone so far as to send Federal troops to the border towns to try to restore order.

It is a big problem on both sides of the border.

Perhaps both those who provide the drugs and those who demand the drugs are equaly to blame....

Shocking thought.
