You say that like it's bad thing.

Cons just keep on doubling down on the "let them die" meme. Lack of shame is really a remarkable thing.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you here (and I know some of you have) have worked in a blue collar environment. Whether or union or not.

Usually what happened was that a person would be hired in with a job title roughly listed as "Gofer". He'd learn that job. As time progressed and he learned that job, opportunities would arise which would entail more training, more responsibility, more money, etc. Union shops usually had a bidding process where those slots would go first to the more senior guy.

Only the most incapable worker (usually. I knew people who didn't progress because they didn't want the added responsibilities) would stay at the hire in job.

When I was in a factory I bid into a job, even though I had very little seniority, that no one else wanted. It was outside and entailed much more physical labor than almost any job inside the building. That job led directly to me being promoted/trained for management. The degree didn't hurt on that part, though.

Asking is one thing. Taking it is another.

Funny, that phrase doesn't equate to what you just said.

And if you're not smart, strong or rich enough to "take" it? The question the OP posed is where those people at the bottom rung of society in terms of those gifts fit in. The arrogant answer about little turtles was "let them die."

I ask you plainly. Do you believe someone such as I just subscribed should die? Or should society at least try to help them find their niche, however humble it might be?

You cons have this remarkable idea that everyone who isn't inventing Facebook or whatever is clearly just lazy and unworthy of life. I find the attitude most disturbing.

Society doesn't help anyone find their niche, but by effort, 99.9% find it, whether that is a 6 figure job or a McJob depends largely on what they bring to the table, but still they find it.

Now at McJobs, one is not going to be able to afford the luxury car, the 60" deluxe tv, the latest Smartphones, etc, but still our working poor are living better than the working poor of prior gens did, and they didn't whine about how unfair everything is. They worked with a higher goal in mind-educating their kids enough that their lives would be better.

Lastly, it's not welfare.

If things get bad enough it won't be difficult to vote for socialist.
One of the main problems we have today is people like you who think the government is your parents.

Everyone wants the government to come in and fix things.
And government is only too willing to step up to the plate. They just need your money to do it.

I certainly wouldn't hold my breathe over that because when all is said and done it was the government and their laws that got us to where we are today. And it spans both parties. Each one furthering what the previous one did.

The Roman Empire rose to greatness but it also fell.

Life is what you make of it. The choices are endless in a free society.
