This has always been the White Elephant project of all White Elephant projects. A hundred billion dollars, spent to benefit a very few people, at a time when California already has adequate road and air transportation, and is under staggering debts with its liberal politicians pouring on more and more.

Not sure what Obama has to do with all this, aside from the fact that massive Federal funds were coming in to help pay for it, even though most of the country would never had ridden on the train.

Then, to everyone's surprise, a judge actually announced that California had to obey the law.
That brought everything to a screeching halt.

Hopefully the second sentence of the article is correct.

Obama's High-Speed Rail Plan Loses Big in California Court

Conn Carroll | Nov 26, 2013

California Gov. Jerry Brown can not spend state bond revenues on President Obama's signature transportation project until the state can identify how they will pay for the entire $68 billion project, a California court ruled Monday. The decision almost certainly spells death for the project.

This August, Superior Court Judge Michael Kenny ruled that the California High Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) “abused its discretion by approving a funding plan that did not comply with the requirements of the law."

That law would be Proposition 1A (the “Safe, Reliable, High-Speed Passenger Train Bond Act for the 21st Century”), which required the CHSRA to identify “sources of all funds to be invested in the corridor” and complete “all necessary project level environmental clearances” before construction can begin.

At the time, Democrats sold Obama's high-speed rail plan as a $40 billion project. But that number quickly skyrocketed to more than $100 billion, after California voters approved it, of course.

This is the best news I've heard since the super-majority took control of the state government.

The railroad to nowhere.

It will be great to have this boondoggle gone.

Another liberal embarrassment to this once great state.

Where have I heard this before.....? Something the president endorsed has RUN OVER BUDGET??

Hopefully, the phrase "President Choadbama's signature ________ project" because the newest definition for the word "boondoggle".

Everything runs over budget. It doesn't matter if it's Republicans or Democrats. Democrats have the HSR boondoggle in CA, Republicans have the Bridge to Nowhere in Alaska. Big whoop. Both parties have their wasteful pet projects. Besides, another reason why government budgets always increase in the end, is because they ALWAYS lowball all the estimates. They arrive at the most conservative figure they can find. Unfortunately, I wouldn't count on a neo-Confederate to know that

Ahahhaha. Good.

Seriously, if the people agree to pay for up to 60 billion in expenses, thats their choice. But when your cost overruns go that far even before breaking ground, and you haven't received the required spending then it should die.

*I used to work in the construction industry, sometimes things would be bid below cost because the company knew the inevitable delays and changes would boost the price up to insane levels of profit.

Sure there is something to be said for this. Democrats have their high speed rail, and Republicans have their bridges to nowhere. Dems have their health, ed, and welfare boondoggles, and Repubs have our defense and security boondoggles.

However their is only one party with a tea party faction that offers a solution of limited gov't, privatization, and minimization of boondoggles. And that would be the GOP.

Republicans have been trying to slow it down and drive up costs via endless court challenges. I'm positive this one will be over turned on appeal but for those of you who want to know why public works projects get delayed and have their costs driven up look no further than this sort of politically motivated legal harassment. It truly is an abuse of the system and the US needs to adopt British style loser pays rules to stop this sort of stuff.
