I wonder what would happen to marriages overall. Just think about having as many as restaurants as brothels in your city. All free competition all legal and all controlled by department of health in your city.

So no HIV worries at all. Any women can start their own business and prices are set freely.

Would this cause a moral societal collapse?

I don't think the demand would be there.

What makes you think there would be no HIV worries? It happens in the porn industry even with rigorous testing, it would with legalized prostitution as well. People get sick at restaurants even with the Dept of Health inspectors.

Nothing would happen. It is just like the prohibition of alcohol or drugs. It continues whether legal or not. Having it legal, with proper regulations and OSHA (sounds funny but something like it would be necessary) standards and a controlled environment would do more to reduce its proliferation than having it remain at the black market. Treat it like we do tobacco and alcohol - tax, regulate, and educate.

Is that a serious question? I think it has already been answered.

I can't figure out why prostitution is illegal. There's no reason for it to be. Whether it becomes legal or not, people will still have sex. That's not going away anytime soon.

Oh wait, now the government is involved, so the cost of the "service" has gone up god knows what. Oh and the girl who has STD's can't work in the brothel, so she is back on the "streets" next to your house.

Oh but wait, no one would pay for her. Yes, they do NOW. AS WE SPEAK. So, go to the legal place and pay 100-200 bucks for oral sex, which takes me 30-60 mins+ to get too, or go around the corner and get the samething for 10 bucks.

You people never cease to amaze me at your total and complete ignorance...

What would happen if prostitution was legalized?
Nothing, except for fewer prostitutes being killed.
