We still have people thinking that certain people should be taxed more or less based on their income with no empirical evidence to support it. It's a big lie.
Taxing people on their income is a disincentive. And in its current form, it's a very regressive system that redistributes wealth upwards.
Things you are currently being told and don't believe
Current / recent talking points:
Your old insurance policy is a junk policy
We are (collectively) responsible for ensuring that all Americans have the _______ that they deserve
I have a right to _______ (something that is not listed in the Bill of Rights, but that the speaker desires to have provided to him/her by government)
Philosophy / ideology:
The ends justify the means
America is a democracy
The Constitution is a living, breathing document
Jobs:
Laundering money through the federal government will create jobs
Jobs (not economic activity) are the key to a vibrant economy
Care:
Democrats only care about the working people / Republicans only care about big business
Unions care about workers
Politicians care about you (and know what's best for you)
Economics, finance, taxes, and welfare:
Welfare lifts the poor out of poverty
Some people deserve a bigger piece of the pie than others do
Raising taxes benefits (anyone / everyone / the poor / the economy )
The rich aren't paying their fair share - and by extension, "I can and should determine what someone else's fair share is"
CEOs pay should be linked to employee pay
The vibrant economy that we had during the Clinton Administration was because of Clinton's higher tax rates / the record high in the stock market is because of Obama (nevermind that the rest of the economy isn't at record highs)
Conventional wisdom:
The two-party system is good for the American people
Politics should be viewed as a one-dimensional spectrum (liberals on the left, conservatives on the right)
Republicans need to run moderate candidates to attract a wider cross-section of voters
Bush was a conservative
the Tea Party is full of racists / the GOP is full of racists / the Republican Party is full of conservatives/the Tea Party is a (fringe) part of the GOP / the Democratic Party is the party of tolerance and diversity / the Democratic Party wants to bring power to the people
Sometimes one is made to wonder if the person reading the news is maybe a robot without the capacity to think. Must be a horrible stress to try and keep a straight face while passing out so much trash and misinformation. And they do it with so much enthusiasm. Wish the TV screen had a "like" and "don't like" and a "LOL" button for us to push.
Better yet would be a comment place so you could let them know what you think about what they just said and correct it with the real information.
TV has long had a "like" button. It's called a Nielsen box and "overnight" ratings. It's why you get news on what the Kardashians and Miley Cyrus are doing today instead of the causes for why everyone should be alarmed at the state of food security.
And don't kid yourself. Today's news outlets - whether old-line "fifth estate" or bloggers - rarely provide "real" information. It's become too expensive to get at the truth when it's so much easier to pander to the demographic that buys from your advertisers.
I have a right to _______ (something that is not listed in the Bill of Rights, but that the speaker desires to have provided to him/her by government)
Your list was pretty much standard propaganda slop, but as a simple historical fact, it should be understood that the Bill of Rights is not a complete list of the rights enjoyed by the people that must be respected, just as the Constitution proper is not a complete list of the powers vested in the federal government that must be respected.
Clearly you didn't read my post, or you don't understand economics.
That wasn't clear to me at all. Though reluctantly, Clinton did raise taxes in 1993. He created new, higher tax brackets for the top 1.2% of earners. He raised the top corporate tax rate to 35%. He eliminated the wage cap for Medicare taxes. He increased the taxable portion of Social Security benefits. All these were taxes on the wealthy, and they helped to stem the deficit tide that Reagan and Bush-41 had left behind, freeing up capital markets to finance a healthy, growing economy that benefitted everyone.

That and the Republican party supports freedom and liberty (getting government out of our personal lives).
