So Estonia is unsafe, throw out Estonia and what do you have? Just heard that Iceland had their first police shooting in their entire history, death by guns rose 2000%.

That is not true. Gun control advocates want to say that we'd have a safer country if we banned guns or banned certain types of guns. As the OP demonstrated, there are countries with very stringent gun laws and as a result, have lower gun crime than the US. However, and again as the OP demonstrated, a lot of these countries, while they have fewer gun deaths than us, are actually just as dangerous and in some cases even more dangerous than the US.... So in other words, people didn't stop committing violent crimes now that they don't have a gun to commit them with, they just use something else.

ergo, stringent gun laws didn't make those countries any safer at all

To only look specifically at "gun deaths" is to only look at half the problem. What is the sense in putting more restrictions on guns if it doesn't bring the over all crime rate down?

I mentioned Estonia specifically because the Washington Post propagandist listed them specifically. They listed them as having far fewer murders by guns -- which is true. What they're not saying is that Estonia has a higher overall murder rate than the USA. Hence, taking all the guns away =/= less murders.

But okay, where else is it more dangerous than the USA you ask? You know, you could have just clicked on the link and saved yourself from looking foolish. But since you asked, here is the list of nations with a higher murder rate than the USA with the anual murders per 100,000 people:

Especially when someones REAL goal is to ban guns, not reduce murder. Then it is perfectly correct to use deliberately misleading statistics.

I do believe Iran and Afghanistan tops the world in that regard, despite the fact that guns are rife in both countries.

Great we've got less gun violence than nations ravaged by wars and poverty. How many of those countries would you be willing to live in or would consider developed nations? Sure its not a problem that we rank the worst in gun violence among first world nations. Go USA!

I enjoy shooting, but if I was gonna murder somebody, I wouldn't
use a gun; too noisy and leaves too much forensic evidence.

The list by the Washington Post included Chile. Chile just happens to be pretty poor ($16,273 per capita income) and it's government is not the most stable. So what qualifiers did the Washington Post use?

But okay, fine. Let's take out all of the nations rife with civil war and poverty, bla, bla bla. Let's only keep nations that are developed and relatively prosperous. That still leaves you with:

  1. U.S. Virgin Islands 39.2
  2. Saint Kitts and Nevis 38.2
  3. Trinidad and Tobago 35.2
  4. South Africa 31.8
  5. Bahamas 27.4
  6. Puerto Rico 26.2
  7. Saint Lucia 25.2

  14. Barbados 11.3
  15. Russia 10.2
  16. Kazakhstan 8.8
  17. British Virgin Islands 8.6
  18. Cayman Islands 8.4
  19. Moldova 7.5
  20. Guadeloupe 7.0

  23. Estonia 5.2
  24. Belarus 4.9
  25. Thailand 4.8
Yes, the USA has a higher murder rate than distant regions like Western Europe and Southeast Asia. Well, the United States isn't in those regions. We are a Western Hemisphere nation with Western Hemisphere problems. We also have the rather significant problem of truth in statistics. Many nations will report less murders than what actually occurs. Can't happen in the USA because of this very subject of debate. There are people waving the USA's murder stats around promoting their own ideological agenda. We also have a pretty massive amount of gangs fueled by dealing illegal drugs pushing our numbers higher and higher. Want the murder rate in the USA to go down? Cancel our idiot war on drugs and things will start getting better.

And let's at least be honest: The gun-control folks want everyone to believe that the USA is the most dangerous place on earth. They're screaming "The sky is falling! The sky is falling!" They tell us that the only reason the USA is "the murder capital of the world (which isn't even remotely true), is all because Americans have guns.

The actual numbers tell a completely different story. Relative to the rest of the world, the USA is a pretty safe place to be.
