That's exactly what I would've said to this fuzzy math scenario, Eric. Good job, you get a cookie.

What a ridiculous and loaded math problem there.

Many of the top companies have shareholders and its dumb to think that they're all little old ladies and employees with a stock option.

Must be all the result of your "luck of birth". Perhaps "white privilege" even? You just lucked out and had more opportunities than the rest of the poor downtrodden proletariat. Maybe it was better role models.

You didn't build that. S-s-someone helped you out along the way.

You drove on public roads to earn your living. You were educated by a school teacher. You didn't get there on your own.

Now open your wallet, you evil gluttonous profiteering bourgeoisie oppressor, and fork over your ill-gotten capital, acquired on the backs of others that you exploited like indentured servants, and not in any way a result of your entrepreneurial actions.

Gimme gimme or I'll start a bolshevik revolution.

If I can do it, so can they, right? Apparently not.
Why do these debates always end in personal little narrative stories about how someone pulled themselves up from the mud and did it all by their lonesome like a good hard working honest man should? As if their little subjective experience in life can somehow easily explain away large structural problems?

Is this a generational thing that you guys love little anecdotes and stories? Is that why Reagan is god among men to you folks?

And socialist Obama is a god among liberals. They too have their little anecdotes and stories -- like the woman living in some motel having sex with random men and conceives a child and then is working 2 full time jobs and going to school full time which explains her expensive cigarette addition and second unaffordable child.

Probably higher.

Family of 4

SNAP $800
medicaid $500(Obamacare HMO)
Free lunch $100

That's $1400 in aftertax dollars they need to replace just those 3 programs.
That's $350 week extra in aftertax dollars.

They make $9 now
Bumping them $6 more only gives them $180 week in pre tax dollars (30 hr week)
They are losing $170 a week for just those 3 programs.

Show me where my math is wrong.

We can't afford to give them a "living wage" because we are subsidizing a middle class lifestyle for them.
A min wage job cannot replace that.

No it is a standard to aspire to, proof that there is not evil, unseen, mystical force, IOW "the man", holding you down at every turn, forcing you into indentured servitude, with no way out of the circumstances you find yourself in.

It is proof that success is there for the taking, for those willing to grasp it and work hard, not settle into a menial job making crap money expecting the gubmint and evil productive rich to subsidize their lack of ambition.

You are doing more harm to the "poor" by suggesting that they don't have any opportunity to rise out of their current position outside of an authoritarian bureaucratic decree that they should make $15/hour for mopping toilets, and that they need the benevolent nanny state to set their wages, pay for their food, pay for their pap smears, pay for their subway tickets, reducing them to the de facto equivalent of a child, stripping them of any dignity, and suggesting they are too stupid to take care of themselves and improve their lot in life without the central planners in the politburo doing it for them.

The guy that maintains the ordering kiosks and hamburger making machines that will replace human inputs will probably make 15 bucks an hour.....

Hamburger-making machine churns out custom burgers at industrial speeds

Fire the whole lot of the burger flippers. Install the machines. Now what has their pissant little wanna-be bolshevik revolution done. They are out of work.

A living wage doesn't mean the amount for one person to support a family of 4...

I agree that people should not demean people who make minimum wage but by the same token I believe no one should demean anyone. I hear Obama and his supporters demeaning people who are successful all the time and you don't expect them to strike back?

Welcome to Obama's divisive politics.
